I am asking everyone here on the board to NOT UPLOAD ANY PICTURES to the forum at this time until I figure out how to manage the excessive amount of bandwidth being used.

We are once again WAY OVER our allotment and for a forum of this size there's no excuse for that.
A forum of this size should not be using anywhere near the kind of bandwidth we are.
To illustrate how bad it is, our little Roadstar community is using almost as much bandwidth as General Motors is on their employee forum.

I am working with vBulletin on fixing the problem, but for the time being PLEASE do not upload any images unless it's absolutely necessary. In most cases it's not.
Go ahead & post pictures in your FOR SALE posts.
Please don't post pictures in threads just because it's fun to reply with a funny picture.

You CAN reference images that are already out there on the web, just make SURE you UN-select the 'save locally' option in the upload window when adding a picture to your post.

I'll post a how-to later - right now I'm trying to prevent the board from just being pulled down unless we cough up a whole lot more money.

    Thanks, Jeff + aka BubbaKahuna

Wow..and here I was thinking things were kind of slow lately. If it would help, you could delete the whole Scavenger Hunt Time thread. We can always start a new one if / when the bandwidth issue gets resolved. It's a big thread with lots of pics, so maybe it would help. I have no idea as I have no clue as to how these things work.

We did add quite a few pics with that thread. Unless we go to using Photobucket or some other site to host the pics so they don't load from RSC.

Photobucket is not possible. They don't allow 3rd party linking anymore. not sure who does.

Looks like we are getting high jacked. Bubba took this clinic on thinking it would be pretty straight forward. Then shit like this happens.
Remember, computers will make your life easier, faster, organized, and save time. Hope you find time to fix this issue.

I also agree with FatherP - the Scavenger hunt thread that has grown in popularity has a lot of pictures.... those take space. You should close the thread for now - or delete it like he suggested.

          Hey Jeff,
          Bob Phoenix here...
Haven't been on in a while, sorry about that... But now I am, I saw your message...
          Here's a couple of suggestions...
The first one is a big band width consumer... Make sure that people are not hosting their images here and then publishing them on other websites, (pass through linking). If someone parks an image here and then puts it on a real busy website like a bulletin board of other forum, the requested file is going out as bandwidth every time it is requested... You can check your server logs to find out what files are being served up, how often and when...

The other option is to migrate the site to a hosting company that will not charge for bandwidth...
I have been with the same hosting company since 2002 and I have never been charged for bandwidth... (I have 5 individual domains and eight web sites). It's called Globat dot com and their Gx01 (non-commerce plan) is $4.44 a month for the first year and then about $135 a year after that and that includes hidden data and domain protection plans.
          Their plan includes:
Unlimited Disk Space a pretty big deal
          Unlimited Bandwidth information
          Host Unlimited Additional Domains
          50 MySQL Databases

at $20 a month, their GX19 package is a really robust commerce package as well... and their migration program is fairly painless...

          Check them out www.Globat.com

          Regards bob

Anything is better than VBulletin, in my opinion. I’ve been on forums in the past that used them and had the same problems. Nothing has changed.

Want to cut down on bandwidth usage?

Eliminate Guest privileges to the site. They contribute nothing.

Yes. Photobucket used to be the host site of choice for forums to post pictures until they held all the photos hostage for an insane ransom.

So are you saying that to use the site you have to be a member? I "lurked" for a little while before I decided to join. I was checking out the site, information, etc.
I don't think if you have to become a member to gain access is going to help you get new people to join.
That is my opinion. No offense meant.

I know of many forums that’ll only allow five or so visits before you decide to join, or not, before limiting access.

Myself, when I found the old RSC, was registering, and posting, the first day.

Like I said. ‘Lurkers’ contribute nothing to the site.

Bots crawling the site isn’t helping the bandwidth, either.

In between working 6 days/week at the store, playing the band and landscaping my yard by myself before the ground freezes I am poking around in the settings to find a balance between locking down images and making a workable solution for the majority of users.

The forum I mentioned is internal to GM employees, not that one.

Looks like Photobucket bought out tinypic.com and is closing it. sigh.

September 9, 2019 - last day for TinyPic account holders to access their accounts and download their images.

We would like to personally thank you for choosing TinyPic as your hosting service. Many of you have been utilizing our services since we launched back in April 2004. As you look for a new hosting service, please consider selecting one of the premium plans offered by our sister site, Photobucket.
