  • Front fork rebuild

I'm trying to rebuild front suspension with progressive springs. I can't seem to find a complete kit for my 2001 1600. Any help as to which of the hundred springs would be best or let me know what you all have used. Thanks

I did the racetech setup. Springs and emulators. Complete transformation. Paired with my roadwing is works awesome.
i like that the racetech springs are designed for your wieght not some "average" rider.
i know one fb guy is very against the emulators but several have used them succesfully. JD750ace was able to get me fixed up over the phone.

I have a progressive lowering spring set up new in box I would sell for 40 plus shipping. I won't be using them.

The Progressive spring number for R* 1999 to 2003 is 11-1144FS Kit. This is what I installed in my 2003.
      hope this helps.

You won’t find a parts kit available, although you can find people that will do it for a (hefty) package price. As stated above, I highly recommend Race Tech Springs and emulators for the ultimate riding experience. If you just putt around town and are more about being seen by people you know than being seen in places where nobody knows you, then it’s probably not worth it to you. Rock River Powersports was (remains) instrumental in the existence of this site, so I myself am committed to buying every OEM Yamaha part I need through them.

+1 on the Racetechs. Did mine without the emulators and it's still a 300 % improvement. As stated their nice because you order them for your weight, not just a generic spring made for everyone's weight.

Don't know about Racetech springs, but I used Sonic straight rate springs in my Royals Star Venture and plan on using them on my '09 RS. The guys over at venturerider.org swear by them. They are very reasonable and their support is second to none. The ride on my RSV was like a new bike and handling is amazing. They also make springs for the RS. Sonic talks about straight vs progressive springs on their site and it makes perfect sense to me anyway. Progressive springs work very well on dirt bikes with their long 10+ inch travel but on road bikes with limited travel may make some use of progressive springs but they get better performance from straight rate springs that are suited to the bike they are intended for. You can also get emulators from them also. Makes sense to me as their is very little progression going on with 5" of travel.

Anyway, I am far from being knowledgeable enough to argue either way. Lord knows I've been sold the Brooklyn bridge more than once over the years, but value vs cost, you can't beat the performance of Sonic vs stock springs. And, they are made right here in the USA.

I'll be another vote for Racetech springs. A vast improvement that is the perfect rate from second one unlike progressives which might not reach the spring rate that's correct for you until they're half compressed. Progressives are better than stock, but Racetech's are better yet, just ask Smokescreens since he's had both.

I too did the Racetechs and they are the hot ticket! I still want to do the emulators too.

I have my RT springs and Emulators. Waiting on new Bushings and Seals to do the job.

Well I got it mostly together and just realized I put my Rebound Springs under the Upper Tubes and they go inside at the bottom. GRRRR !!! Oh well , Oil not in yet. Speaking of Oil , what is the level I need ? I'm 200 lbs. and have about 40-50 lbs. of stuff on board Solo. .95 Racetech Springs and Gold Emulators installed.

Front spring and oil weights are only figured based on the rider weights, not rider + passenger or gear. With that said though, Racetech recommends 15w fork oil with their springs and emulators. I used Belray fork oil but others may be biased towards something else.

Thank You . What I"m needing is the Oil level for my 200 lbs. with the .95 RT Springs and Emulators.

I'm pretty happy with the ride and very accurate handling , the only thing i'm not happy with is the Dive in the frontend when braking in curves. Can I adjust this and how ? I've got exact measured 15wt MOTUL oil in, 95lb RaceTech springs and Gold Emulators. Roadwing set at 30% more or less ?

If your preload is set at 20mm, you can 2 washers and increase it to 24mm. You can also try adding another 10cc of oil each side, but that may reduce the supple feel over small irregularities a little.
