Assembled the fuel pump unit today, not that hard, + wire to short, did some soldering came out good. Have to take my time to make a good job.
Received the sending unit today, not same but I can make it work. Waiting for seller response, gasket wasn't included in kit although showed in pictures as included

Just a quick question; does your air box help support the throttle body?
        Thanks, Duke.

Yes, in my application, but isn't the Yamaha air box

I was just curious because I've notice a few manifolds that the vulcanized rubber to aluminum have parted. If the Throttle Body, "or Carb.", wasn't stablized, I would think that it could add to the vulcanizing failures.
          Just a thought.

I know the previous owner of this bike, he did a lot of engine work on it and I believe the removal and install plus the heat caused the separation in this case.

Well, this is an updated on the sputtering/intake backfiring
Installed the new pump, runs great until warms up, same isuue has before, pressure starts to drop and loss of power. For the heck of it I blocked the line from the pressure regulator to the tank, pressure goes to 70 and stays no matter how much I open throttle, no good.
Unblocked the lline and plugged the pressure regulator nipple, the pressure drops to 45 but runs good, I oppened the throttle to 80 mph and no problem.
Tested the pressure regulator with vacuum pump and holds but the fuel pressure stayd the same, pressure at the pump should change.

This thing is driving me crazy
The pressure regulator orifice is for fuel to escape in case of diaphragm rupture, tested and holds vacum, no ruptere, disconnect the hose from regulator to tank no fuel on this side and there's pressure on the rail side, regulator is holding pressure.
Pump pressure is @ 57 at idle, went on road test, on cruise pressure drops to 40 but still runs good, under heavy acceleration pressure drops to 20 and looses power and starts bucking until I easy the throttle.
Parked, keeping the fuel gauge on, key off, pressure drops to 30 at about 2:30 minutes, loosing al the prime in about 10 minutes.

Is your fuel tank vent nipple, tubing and roll over valves clear? Maybe it's creating a vacuum in your fuel tank. I suppose you could ride with the fuel tank cap off and see what happens but you might get wet with fuel.

        • #26
Shores, that's an idea, that tank was very dirty, my son did a good job cleaning it, now is like new, perhaps some dirt went inside the tubing.
          Will try that tomorrow.
          Where are the rollover valves?
At the end of the tubing?

On my 2008, I have two rollover valves about Midway down the front frame tubes. There's a hose coming from the event at the bottom right of the fuel tank which then turns into a y so they can go through two rollover valves and then it goes through another y to return it to one hose hanging down the left side of the front engine frame. Some folks remove the valves but I prefer to have them working properly and have them in place in the event I tip the bike over. Look at the schematic on the Yamaha motorcycle website. They are about the size of your thumb.

Got it, that's where I thought qas the placement.
            Thanks

wouldnt it be safer to vent the gas cap instead of riding without it?

Went to check pressure right now, 0 pressure, at the first try opening the ignition there wasn't any pressure, took me 4 times to build pressure to 57

Alright, removed the Kemso pump, trash.
Ordered a Quantum pump at Amazon
Installed today, pressure stays fixed at 58, idle, open throttle, under load, no matter how hard the throttle is twisted pressure stays where it should be.
            Finally problem solve

Sorry to hear the Kemso pump didn't work out, bummer.

I would throw a new factory pump in it. Comes with a new sock filter I believe. If you want to mess around with an aftermarket and wired in and hope for the best you can do that. But if you have a factory pump in there and you don't run the tank bone dry they should last 20 plus years.

Why pay $600 that may or may not last 20 years when can be done with $80. Whit the money expended on one pump I can install 7 of those, will fail 6 more times?
                  I don't think so!
Sometimes vehicles can't be driving for circumstances out of our control.

Shit wasn't moving back and forth in the lines, fuel rail and lines removed, checked and cleaned when injectors removed for service..
