  • Rowdy star. Bobber style

Intro thread. 99 Silverado. Turning into a bobber. Custom exhaust by me and my dad. Stripping down as much weight as possible. 18” rear wheel eventually. My dad says it has some motor work done but can’t find the paperwork on it. Going to do a blackout theme also. Any tips/advice is helpful and appreciated.

exhaust looks great. How does it sound? Looks like your off to a good start. I also did a 99 blue and white bobber. I was going to do a sporty tank on it, but never got around to it before I sold it. Click image for larger version

ID:	76068 I used the front fender, and cut it down, and used it for a rear fender

Thank you. It sounds great. Pretty damn loud on the gas but actually quite reasonable once your at speed. Eventually all the colors and chrome will be some form of black or gray. Going to get the ignition box, maybe send the heads to get done. I’d like to work with lectron carburetors and try to fit one on. They’ve done great for 2 stroke dirt bikes.

I’m definitely taking inspiration from these 2 bikes. They both have things I like that I want to do my own twist to.

Cut the horns off the frame by the stick riders seat....get a real springer seat on there.

A springer seat is on the list. Just started the build a week ago. Springer seat with honeycomb springs.

Just my thoughts on bobber seats. go with the bigger seat 15 or 16" not the 13"... Larossa seats feel a lot better on your behind than Builtwell seats. At 200#'s heavy duty springs do not give at all. I ended up going to medium duty springs and got just a little bounce in my seat. Much better for me.
I didn't like the way most Road Star bobber builds left a large gap between the rear fender and the seat. I made a little plate that allowed me to move the seat back just a little farther to help get rid of that gap and give me a little more leg room.
hare are some pics of the plate (with builtwell seat) and a full bike pic with the Larossa seat. Click image for larger version

How far back did you move it? I’ve considered doing that as well. I’m 6’ so the stock position of the floorboards feels a little close. How did it affect handling also? Thinking about custom forward controls too.

i know longer have the bike so I can't measure it. I'm guessing about 1.5-2" on the picture with just the bracket you can still see where the brace would be (under the bracket) that you would mount the springs to had I not put the plate on it.
I ended up doing forward controls on mine too. I also did a 21" front wheel with dual disc brakes.
Not sure if you are trying to do this as a budget build. If you are, I painted everything that I wanted black with rustoleme (Not sure how you spell it) appliance epoxy paint. Aslo some people have made cheap forward controls by removing there floorboards and mounting the passenger peg on the front.

I also blacked out the switch housing. I didn't take my time on these and they didn't turn out all that great, but ok from a distance Click image for larger version
