  • Hello...New guy here..!

Hi everyone. My name is Pete and I'm not only new to this forum, but new to the motorcycle world. I just bought my very first bike and it's a 2005 Yamaha Road Start VX1700 Silverado. I'm doing well with riding, but trying to learn more about this style of bike, so i'm hoping this forum will help me out a bit. Thanks and hope to learn from you guys. See ya!

Roadiemort, thank you not only for your kind response, but also giving me an idea as to what kind of exhaust I had. All my friends told me they think it's an aftermarket item, but couldn't tell me what kind, as there are no markings on it that I can see. They all have Vance & Hines, but couldn't be sure as to what mine was. This helps a lot! Thanks!!!

Father Pobasturd, Thanks for the compliment, I've been getting thumbs up from lots of people! Learning to ride...Well, I've been a driving instructor for many years teaching Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) and Counter Terrorism Driving for a long time, so much of the dynamics and safety issues are second nature to me. However, I just enrolled in the local Motorcycle Safety course (MSF) here at my local community college and a few days after I completed that, I went and bought this bike. In 8 days, I put about 400 miles on it already, and a few of those days I didn't ride because of the rain.

Yea, to be honest, I was a bit worried with anything over an 1100 , but kept finding better deals in bigger bikes, so I said screw it and bought this one...Had to learn to handle bigger bikes anyway, right?

from S.E. Michigan. the roadie is a hell of a bike. has a few short comings that are easy to shore up but the big thing is the motor is built like a tank and last as long as your butt can sit in the seat provided you keep up with normal maintenance and use the correct oils.

Very nice first bike.. many of us (including myself) would love to have that exhaust (it is no longer made) Hope you enjoy it, Just take it easy until you get used to it... That stock seat can be a PIA if you ride over 100 miles. For most people a ED seat, and some handle bars (or just risers) will set the bike up nicely for comfort on longer rides. (when you get to that point) That is about all these bikes need to be great. Very dependable bikes, Great choice.
owning a motorcycle is not a matter of life or death, it is much more important than that

Up above on the first post, Roadiemort mentioned the exhaust are Roadhouse pipes...Is that what you're referring to? Also, what's an ED seat?

yes the road housepipes are getting very hard to find. Maybe you should just send them to me.
ED seat is the best seat (by general opinion) that you can buy for the roadstar. I put one on my 01 Road Star the day before I left on an approx 500 ride (one way) and never felt a numb or sore spot on my ass. I was 350 miles into the ride before I even realized that I didn't even think about the seat, I wish they made one for my Indian as well.
By far the most popular seat for the road star. they make 2 versions, the Standard- which sits you into the bike a little lower than stock (this is the one I had). and the big tourer that raises you up and back a little bit.
They are not the cheapest seat, but the best.. I bought 3 different seats before I bought this one. would have been cheaper just to get it from the start.

I just looked at their web site and it looks like they also offer a reduced reach seat now as well.

Thanks, Cike! I went to the site you provided and checked out the seats; They look pretty cool, especially the option of adding a logo, studs, or other stuff. If I end up getting one, I'll post it. Thanks again!!!

OMG...I got friends and family in the Elmhurst, Corona, and Ridgewood area of Queens!! I'm actually from Brooklyn, more specifically, from the Bushwick section, which kind of borders with that part of Queens right there on Myrtle. I've been in the Virginia Beach area now for almost 25 years, but still go to NY several times a year (unfortunately). Great to meet ya!

Great to meet you too. Small world. If ever coming to the Myrtle Beach area, send me a pm and we get together. The areas you are talking about were my old stomping grounds. My best friend had a discount store in Bushwick. Enjoy your bike, be safe and ride safe.
