  • I'm a new to me owner

Hi I'm new here. I picked up a 2005 Silverado. I have a size 14 foot. Is there a kit to convert the shifter to a toe shifter? My foot is too big to fit between the toe and heel pegs of the shifter.

  • #2
Welcome. The shifter is a toe shifter and it is adjustable......you can raise it higher above the foot rest of that would help. On some models you can remove the heel shifter. On others, you just cut it off.

Seems the 05 and up have a removable heel portion of the shifter. Or can change out to a billet one STR-4WM38-10-01 or STR-4W4WM38-10-02? Ohh and welcome!

You have come to the right place for info on your bike. Collectively, the guys here have an entire encyclopedia of knowledge on Roadies. One word of caution, beware!, they also have an uncanny way of getting you to empty your wallet on your bike.
Uh, I heard that from a friend.

Representing Scorpion Gulch, Arizona. 2005 model you should be able to remove the heel part of your heel-toe shifter pretty easily. If you have absolutely no mechanical ability , it may be slightly challenging. Below is a pic of my stock shifter with the heel part removed. If yours don't look like that then you have the early model shifter and you either have to saw it off of go with an aftermarket shifter.

Being a newcomer, be sure to read up on this site how to check the oil / remove the seat. It can be a bit tricky (and frustrating) until you get used to it. The bikes seldom need oil between oil changes, if ever, but still you should know these things. The oil tank (under the seat) has a dipstick, but you don't just pull it out, stick it back in, and pull it out again. There's a little dog and pony show you have to emcee first to get a (somewhat) accurate reading. Best to just do an oil change when you first get the bike, that way you know it's right. If you take it somewhere to get it done make sure they only put 4 quarts in it. The book calls for slightly more but, trust us, you don't want to put slightly more in it. Use the most expensive synthetic oil you can afford that's made for air cooled 4 stroke motorcycles and it'll reward you with many miles of reliable service. A few members here has seen past 200,000 + miles. Good luck and thanks for joining.

And make sure the oil has high enough levels of ZDDP. Just search the site for ZDDP and you'll find plenty of info. If there's *one* thing you don't want to cut corners on when owning a Roadstar, that's it.
