Hello everybody. Thanks for the add. I joined this forum with the hopes of meeting like minded folks and gaining some insight into what I am about to embark on....Customizing my 2008 Yamaha Road Star Silverado. I figured i should start with the engine, mostly because of the complexity of it. I have learned that if I want to ass some HP, at a minimum, get a Fuel management system..(recommendations. anyone?), an exhaust system.( Road Burners from Craiglist), and an Air Intake setup. (Considering Baron or Krator).

Please feel free to offer your experience or advice.

You’ve been warned. Don’t waste your money. You don’t need a fuel processor for a fuelie and will likely have problems getting one to run right. Most who’ve tried have removed them. The stock ECU will adjust just fine with aftermarket intake and exhaust. The Roadstar is a torque tractor, not a high performance machine. A carbonated model is the only one you would be able to tweek even a little more HP out of. Read this entire thread below and report back for the 250 question exam.

from SE Mi. like posted above if you only want pipes and intake the computer can adjust for that by itself. and the rodie motor is a big torque monster by design so you will never get big hp out of it but you can get some if you really want to pay for it. you can do a big bore kit and bump up to 110ci and do ported heads, intake and cam but that will certainly need the new computer but so far i have not seen anyone having luck with them. but most of us are not trained on how to tune a fuel injected fuel map system either.

It won’t. SpeedStar came out with a bunch of add-ons for the FI. Ten years ago. The market has dried up. Some parts included a bigger throttle body, cams, etc. Just can’t find them anymore. The throttle bodies and manifolds are old stock someone is trying to dump on the unsuspecting.

How is it in Canada? I see tons of people riding quite a bit, but you know, I assume it's always cold and snowy up there?

Lol yeah we ride when not snowing. My bikes have been put away since early October but have been working on them. It is -8 degrees celsius today and snow. Going snowboarding on the weekend with my son. Gotta do something before April lol! This year has been unusual. We had a late summer and no fall went right into winter. I can usually getrides in Oct, Nov and Dec but not this year. Real wet, cold, snow and crap all since Canadian thanksgiving.

I have a '00 R/S hotrod & an '04 R/S long-distance scooter.
The '00 is a hoot to ride & I still enjoy spanking Superglides & FXRs on the streets & back roads of beautiful N/E Georgia. The '04 is mostly stock (BAK , rejetted carb, & straight pipes) & is my "escape vehicle".
I also have an '06 Stratoliner (injected 113 cu, in.). I put a glass pack muffler on it & I'm not planning any other mods...it's just right (like Baby Bear's porridge) just the way it is.
The carb'ed motors on my R/S's are real stout motors & perform very well & I love the injected motor on the Strat. Nice flat power surge from bottom to top.
Hope your scooter turns out just like you like it. Keep us in the loop as the tweeks take shape.

Great buy on the pipes. "Father Pobastard is right about the pipe and the bungs. Your bike is fuel injected so there is an O2 sensor in each one of the exhaust pipes. If the pipes you bought don't have bungs for the O2 sensors, you will have to either get the bungs welded in the proper locations or, if you can't locate the bungs, you will have to remove one of the O2 sensors and go to the hardware store and find the thickest nuts you can find that will thread onto the O2 sensor that can be welded onto the the exhaust pipes instead of bungs.. The thing you want is for the tip of the sensor to only extend into the pipes no more than 1/8". The thread size needed is 10mm but I can't remember the pitch.
