  • Hello from Canada

    Hi all,

I might be picking up a 2007 Road Star 1700 in the next little while. I'm new to these, so I'm going to go root around here and see what I can find in regards to buying one of these second hand.

Representing Scorpion Gulch, Arizona. 2007 is supposedly the best year Roadstar. Tell us more about it, like, is it a Silverado, a Special, a Midnight Special, et al. Tell us their asking price and we will help you there as well.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't know a lot about it, as the owner has it stored in a seacan, neglected and lonely (I feel like I am doing a pet rescue here lol). If the deal goes through, I am trading an SUV for it, so cost isn't an issue. Long as we both are happy with what we get, it will be a good deal.

Trying to attach a couple of pics....hope this works:

From north Florida. That's a great looking bike. A good bath and it will look like new.

Thanks, I just hope everything works out. Meeting tomorrow just so they can see the suv, so I'll try and get some answers on it. I don't know any of the history behind it. One of several bikes he has, this one is a US bike, supposedly less than 100miles on it.

welcome to the clinic. the roadstar has a few short comings but what doesnt anymore. the 3 big ones i can think of is the factory seats are like concrete, the clutch will eventually slip due to a weak pressure spring and the suspension is pretty mushy. all three have fairly easy fixes when your ready.

Those do seem fairly simple. More of my concern is the fact that it has been sitting for so long if it truly does have such low mileage. I'll have to find out when it was started last. Certainly doesn't look recent. lol

Well, as the story goes, the owner of the R* and his father purchased a total of 6 bikes from a dealership in Nevada that went under several years ago. His father still has one bike, he has another, and they sold a couple of bikes off. I posted an ad saying that I had an SUV for sale, and so he decided to see if I would like a trade for the R* that has only been on a lot and never actually ridden more than a test drive.

He's planning to bring the bike to me this Saturday, so I should have the bike by the end of the weekend.

From California. It's definitely a later 1700, possibly a 2007 which is good, and unmolested, which is good too. Given it's age and low miles though, there are several things you'll probably need to do before doing any serious riding, like clean the carb, inspect the tank for rust, check that the tires aren't too badly cracked from drying out, etc. To be honest though, those tires really should be replaced and the stock Bridgestone's and Dunlops sucked anyway. Not to worry though, there's not much we can't help with here on the RSC if you're willing to get your hands dirty. Keep us posted.

Great looking bike. Once cleaned it will look brand new because it is new. Do what Doc_V recommended before you venture out. Also, change the oil and filter. Four qts. of oil(and no more than 4)and new filter.

Thanks for the suggestions Dov_V, all good ideas. I will confess though that I am not knowledgeable about carbs at all, but I would assume after this long, it would need to be broken down and cleaned due to varnish. 11 years later and yes, definitely stock tires would be unsafe - I'll have to look at what a suitable replacement would be, and if a size change should be considered.

Sorry, missed this part. He did tell me it is definitely a 2007....he found the notes he had on the bikes and it was listed as an 07. Carbed, not EFI.
