  • here, pull my finger...

good day ladies and gents...my name is tim and i live in southern michigan...up until a month ago if you had asked me what i ride i would have told you a honda cbr1000rr (which i still own)...BUT...i bought an '07 yamaha road star (7000 miles) to sell, rode it for a month and sold it and hated myself for doing so a couple days later as i enjoyed the ride (seeing more than the road 50-100 yards in front of me)...sooooo i purchased another one, an '08 w/11000 miles and while i love the bike it was lowered to the ground and that has got to go...i'll be delving into your archive to see how to proceed with that...it has a lowering kit that utilizes dog bones that one loosens a few nuts and rotates the shafts in and out to adjust, which you can't do because of the frame, wonderful design...

anywho i'll be around snooping for tips...i'll post some pics as soon as i get my feet wet here...keep the rubber on the road...zingpow (zing, zp, the zinger, uncle zing)

welcome from harrison township, mi. a little bit north of detroit off I-94.

i agree the road star is to low to start with but the rear shock is a weak link itself. far to weak for the job. i would look into a roadwing shock (modified gl1800 shock that i can provide if you wish) or a progressive shock. the whole shock not just a spring swap.

I have not had the adjustable links but would think that they would be able to adjust to the stock length. If you need that length I am not sure if the 1600 and your 1700 are the same. If someone has a stock link to measure you would only have to change yours once. Good luck.

Also from Southern MI. Roadwing is indeed the way to go. Along with Racetech springs and emulators in the front forks. Makes a big old pig handle as well as a big old pig is capable of handling (which really isn’t too bad-just not compared to your CBR).

I'm the reverse as you. Yamaha fast bike (R1) and Honda couch (F6B)

Where in southern MI are ya?

I did a roadwing conversion. definitely improved the ride. also reversed my lowering (didn't like scraping corners!) and added rear fender lowering kit. (see classifieds -body and frame)
with a lowered look, stock ground clearances and a roadwing, it's been the best setup for me and others I know.

The Roadwing is not going to fix this lowering problem he wrote about... He either needs to adjust the dogbones to the stock length, or replace those adjustable ones with stock ones.

                          From Plano texas.

There are the solid type arms and they are not adjustable. like the ones from Pacific Coast, if you have those type you will need to replace them with stock (oem) arms.

                          Good luck and ride safe.

i have the originals and that was my first thought after realizing the futility of the "easy" way as was intended by the design of the ones on there now...

I have had 8 or 9 sport bikes and probablly 6 or 7 cruisers so I understand the speed at handling for sure. I also have a Honda F6B and 2 roadstars (01 & 04). Roadwing with a RAP was definitely the best upgrade for me. Have fun with it but respect it for what it is. It's not a cbr 1000 but you can still have a great time on the roadstar for sure!

If it has adjustables, just adjust them to pick it back up. A couple of 3/4 inch wrenches and you’re in business.
