  • Greeting from Western Montana

    Good Morning All,

My name is Jason, and last night I purchased a bike I had been wanting for a very long time. I knew I wanted something bigger than the VTX1300 I had previously owned. Bikes, in general, seem far fewer and more expensive in Montana, but some patience netted me this beautiful 2005 Road Star with factory hard bags and only 16k miles. Been lurking here for a while but never said anything because I didn't have a Road Star. I've finally joined the family, so I thought I'd say hi.

        Joe,

I just did! Thank you. As far as I know, the bike is all stock with the factory baffles removed from the pipes. I'm going to be in the market for a BAK, pipes, programmer, etc. here shortly. The hard bags are Yamaha, and say Silverado on the side of them. Not sure exactly what model I have, but that would seem to point towards the Silverado?

When you change the pipes, plan on removal of the AIS.

              Joe,

Is there a kit for that somewhere? I know when I did that on my VTX, there were some block off plates I purchased and removed all the AIS stuff from the bike.

Representing Scorpion Gulch, Arizona. We have a map (somewhere). If you can figure out how to find it you can e-pin your location on it.. If I recall correctly, the last time (and every time) I have looked at it there was no one in Montana. The block off kits are on ebay (pretty cheap). Some members use spent .45 shell casings to block off the A>I>S holes, but that may only apply to the 1600's, I'm not sure, Someone sharper than I will eventually weigh in and let you know. Your bike is definatley a Midnight Silverado, that's a nice score. There are a few different models, for the most part they only differ cosmetically.

From Northern California. Congrats on your new Silverado, it's a good looking bike. A lot of guys around here just use a .45 shell casing to plug the holes in the cylinders. There's a how-to on the AIS removal in the tech section.

Love that model! I am hoping to eventually find a low miler like that to move my tins over to. I might look into blacking out my motor this next winter... already looking for cast wheels, but it may end up being easier and cheaper to buy the whole bike and make the swap and sell the 1600.

Congrats and welcome (although you may have been here before me). I just got an 06 Midnight too, not the Silverado though. I'll put up a few pics here soon. Stay safe and enjoy that awesome bike! Shiny side up, rubber side down!
