  • Greetings from SoCal

    Hi everyone,

I'm joining this forum in hopes to familiarize myself with ownership of Road Stars while I'm actively looking to buy a 1600 or 1700.

I've ridden all my life and currently own and ride a Harley, but I've had my eye on the big Road Stars for a couple of years now.

Looking forward to learning from you and hope to join you in the joy of owning one soon

    Thanks,
    Mark

Representing Scorpion Gulch, Arizona. The 1700's 2005 and up have stronger charging systems. It is rumored the 2007 is the best year model for the carburated bikes. After '07 they are all fuel injected. Other than that, there are minor differences between the years. Nothing wrong with a 1600, but if you like extra lights, fairings and the like, look for a 1700. I got my 2006 for $2500.00. That was 5 years ago and it still runs great. Zero issues with it so far with 58K on the clock. Some members here have logged over 200,000 miles on the original cylinders and bottom end and are still riding them. Watch Craigslist for good deals, but have the cash handy and be ready to jump when you find one.

I have an H-D also, well, it's my wife's, but I also rode them for years and I'm responsible for the upkeep on hers. She has a Fatboy with all the goodies. Delkron cases, Axtell cylinders, Crane ECM, Mikuni HSR42 carburetor to name a few. 4 months ago we put an entire new Compu-Fire charging system in it. It's not charging..again. I tried to love H-D, I just never got any love in return. I will never go back, as the Road Star is far superior in every aspect. If you find a good one, you'll see for yourself.

From Ohio. You'll love the Roadstar. Never owned a Harley but I have ridden several. Not that they aren't nice but when I look at what you get per dollar between the two, I bought the Roadstar .

Welcome. From south east michigan. The roadie is a great cruiser that will last forever. A few spots on them are lacking on them but all the weak areas are easily remedied.
clutch spring is on the weak side
And suspension is on the very soft side...

      Those are my biggest complaints

From the thriving Metropolis of Airlie, Oregon!

The roadstar is a fantastic bike! I'm starting on my 3rd year with my 2000 and while it is no hot rod, it gets around just fine. My only gripe as others will mention is the weak suspension. get a Roadwing, and swap out the front springs for Racetech and their Gold Valve emulators and it will be a solid ride. there is not a lot of performance parts available, but you don't really need it either. Let it breathe easier with a big air kit and 2 into one pipes and it should bring smiles All this for thousands of dollars less than a Harley!

from East Texas! I can say I did own a Harley,,,, a Z90!! Took the engine and put it in a min-bike frame. Best summer ever!1 LOL And I did buy my last bike, a 99 Intruder from a Harley dealer in Goldsboro, NC. Definitely you will love a Roadstar. Best of all road bikes I've ever owned.

Agreed, more value to the dollar is exactly what has moved me in this direction. Beautiful RS by the way.

Welcome Mark, you've made the right choice. I bought my first Roadstar because I couldn't afford a Harley at the time. I bought my second Roadstar because it was the better choice.

I am now officially a proud and HAPPY RS owner. Just picked up a 2006 Midnight that is immaculate, has the aftermarket extras I wanted and was extremely well taken care of. The 90 mile trek home was a wonderful introduction to the bike. Absolutely LOVE it! Pictures to come. (Now I just need to sell my Harley).
