Have to ask this although it may be a dumb question. I've always ran Dunlop 404 and 402 on my other bikes. I know the Road Srar 1700 is alot heavier. What are the best tire to tires to run? I've read and seen Shinko 777's are pretty good for this bike.

Shinko 777HD is great and cheap...expect 6k out of rear and 10k front at best

Michelin CIII Touring and Dumop Elite 4narwnrhey very best MC tires but $...but last 2x as long as Shinko

Put a car tire on rear and a rear MC tire up front reversed (double Darkside) and be good for 35k+ miles

I've heard that about a car tire. Dunlop 404 is not good for a heavy bike. I will agree on that.

Davej runs a particular Dunlop that he is happy with but I have had crappy luck with them. Because I have white walls, my choices are limited. I don't have the dollars to pay for mounting the shinkos as often as they require so I run Metzler 888s. I got 19,000 mi front and rear out of a pair. I tried Continental Legends but I did not like them. Most folks who run Black Walls really like the Michelin III.

How many miles a year do you put on your bike. For those folks that only put on a few thousand miles a year the Shinko 777 would be good as you'll replace them before they age out. I like to try and get something that will last 3-4 seasons of riding.

I’ve used Dunlops, but switched to Michelin Commander II’s last year and I love them. I expect 20k - 25k miles out of them. I usually got 10k - 12k on the Dunlops.

Michelin Commanders II’s are the best tires I’ve had. I’ve tried Metzlers, Dunlops, Avon and the Michelin’s….other than the Michelin’s the other tires lasted one riding season barely. The Michelin tires lasted 2 seasons and around 20k miles on the rear and 3 seasons on the front. Unless I go Darkside I won’t buy anything else but Michelin’s

Never used Shinkos but anyone ever try out their new SR999 "Long Haul" tires? Only a couple bucks more than the 777s

I have a buddy that took the plunge and tried the new shinko Sr 999's. Rough, they may last a while, but you will feel every foot of it.

I went with the 777's for handling, but up here I don't put in a lot of miles so I may even get three seasons out of them. No complaints, and night-and-day compared to the dilapidated shit the bike came with when I bought it. Eastern Washington State.

It seemed that most of that was limited to a couple sizes if I recall correct. I'd be interested in how many they've sold and if there's been any concern over the other sizes.
