  • New to Road Stars, owned various Stars.

    Good morning to all!

I am looking at buying this RS, I would appreciate any input, thoughts, and wisdom, prior to looking at, and/or buying this bike...

    What I know so far...
I have dug through the forum, had him check if the tranny recall was completed... He didn't know there was a recall, and it was completed in 09’.
He has had the bike for a little over a year (I believe, damn CRS).
Asked him about the pipes, he installed them, he did not rejet, and stated that there hasn't been any issues or changes other than the sound.

    Thank you all in advance!
Hope everyone has a great day...
    C.H.

From what I recall if you're not changing the air intake to a different setup you can get by switching pipes without re-jetting the carb. But someone more experienced will chime in I'm sure. Looks like a pretty basic stock Road Star. So that's good as someone hasn't started chopping it up to make something else out of it. Good to know the trans recall was done. The only other issue is they upgraded the oil pump gear to a heavier design in later years. So if you ever have the clutch apart on it you'll want to look at that gear and upgrade if it hasn't been done.

Not sure what your region commands in regards to prices. That seems about what they list for here. Not sure if they sell for that or not. If it runs and rides good, I'm sure a handful of cash could persuade them to come down some.

Thank you for you input Brad, the oil pump gear/clutch are on my to do list, if I end up getting the bike.
It seems here in the PNW, people seem to think of bikes as investments as far as pricing, unlike AZ.
      Thanks again!

From Puyallup Washington. Looks like the fender stays are missing as well as the sissy bar brackets. I bought a 2007 one locally 2 years ago for a friend for $3,000. That's extremely low miles for such an old bike so I would check it thoroughly for rust as it's probably been sitting a lot. Hope you can join us for this event below.

When: July 13-16th. Arrive on Thursday 13th. Rides on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th. Depart on Sunday 16th. We usually meet for breakfast before leaving. Where: Belfair WA Lodging: Belfair Motel (http://belfairmotel.com/) 23322 WA-3 Belfair, WA 98528 (http://maps.app.goo.gl/4c92uPvHGp2JcWoF9?g_st=ic) Call 360-275-4485

Thank you for your time and input Shores, greatly appreciated!
I noticed the missing fender stays, wasn't certain if they were something he removed along with the saddlebags, and was thinking the “extra seat” mentioned, included the sissy bar... That is exactly why I reached out for input here from the combined wealth of knowledge regarding R*

How many miles did the 2007 have on it?
I plan to call, and inquire about those missing items.

        Thanks again!

He removed the fender stays, saddlebags, mounts, and spare seat (original) has the sissy bar. Everything is included.
However after Shores’ input, it seems a better bike will come along for the 3k, and without the need to check/replace the oil pump gear.

That's a twin to mine all the way down to the electronic cruise control! Did the rear turn to run/brake/turn mod as well. I still need to get my front fender rail mounted.

Representing Scorpion Gulch, Arizona. It looks a little rough in the pics, I'm thinking it's a $2000 bike as is. Try to hold out for a later model which has an upgraded charging system (stock), and no oil pump issues. 2004 and up. I got my 2006 for $2400, and that was 7 years ago. Still runs great.

How often do you wash your gerbil? Asking for a friend.

I am really amazed by the prices you mention. Overhere ( Netherlands) RS do not sell for less than €4500 ( equals same as dollars ) and then you’re lookin at a high mileage one. If they would come up for sale at €2k overhere you need to hurry to grab it….

i would run from that bike, the fender stays are removed, likely a cracked fender or beginning of one, also looks like a rattle can paint job, spells i ve been in wreck, stick to low miles, OEM stock bikes, unless you know the history. get the stock pipes with it, cuz states are getting NEWYORKED AND CALIFORNIED with laws. plus there a no WS or bags , and the seat? do u like the seat, what kind id it? look inside gas tank for corrosion, tanks are 4-700 clams, im, with father POB, get an 04, 05 or later, 08 and later if u dont know cobberators
