Morning all, new to this forum but not to the Road Star. Relocated from Western NY to NW Albuquerque, NM at the end of 2019, been riding since high school.
After a dabbling with a Kawasaki ZRX1100, Triumph Trophy, and BMW R1200CL after I got here, I'm back where I started with an '03 RoadStar 1600 that I picked up yesterday thats been sitting since last summer. Drained the fuel, SeaFoam in the tank with fresh fuel, new tires on the way, plugs will be changed, and I'll bleed the brakes and check the pads. And of course, a thorough cleaning once she's registered this afternoon.
On the ride home I noticed a bit of trouble idling w/o choke and stuttering/exhaust back fire so a carb cleaning is due which may resolve the lean issue, if not, I'll check for manifold leaks. No issues with moderate acceleration, gentle accelleration is where the issues appear. Lots of backfire on decelleration. No discoloration on the pipes, no backfire through the carb but I did notice the K&N triangular filter that covers the whole airbox had some gaps as the cover wasnt as secure as needed.
