    The stethoscope tells me the rapping noise is inside the front lifter block sounds like its the exhaust lifter, now im wondering if the exhaust valve is sticking or the cam or lifter is worn, i knew the noise wasn't normal

    Mine has sounded like a hay bailer for the last 80,000 miles. Not sure what noise you have. Try the Sea Foam or Techron flood. May help. If you have a 1700, may be more likely to help with SVS.

        If it is a 1700, hopefully if it is SVS it breaks free.

          If it is svs the heads are coming off and ill clean the guides then check clearances

            .....have you listened to a number of other same year Road Stars for comparison???

            does it drive ok? Smooth power?

              I think you said earlier that it had plenty of power. If so, things are probably fine and normal. But if you have tinkeritis, then go ahead and have fun. A sound bite for us all to hear would be great.

                Tinkeritis CAN lead to issues....I've seen many posts talking about how a Road Star owner did/had done the valve adjustment (with zero problems beforehand) and then after had significant issues and even end up with a broken motor. I cannot recall any post ever that indicated a stock Road Star crunched a motor BECAUSE of not adjusting valves. Ever. As soon as you crack that perfectly good running motor open just because of perceived noise you absolutely run the risk of messing things up. If it runs good best to leave it alone.

                  Gee, one of the best and easiest tests would be the exhaust 'suction' test... Is it drawing air back in? SVS. Also, if the power's there, and the MPG is normal... Fugetaboutit!

                      Ouch. Then tell the mechanic that"it just started making noise and running bad" It ran good yesterday. lol
