  • Exhaust fit

So im shopping around for exhaust systems and sometimes they show pipes covering 1600 and 1700s then there's pipes that fit only the 1600 i don't get it, ether the exhaust ports have the same symmetry between 1600 and 1700 or they don't, right? Am i missing something, can i buy a used system from a 2003 1600 and bolt it to 2006 1700?

They are all the same and fit any year. The only difference is that from 2008 up they would need bungs for the O2 sensors. If they don't have the bungs, you can weld in your own.

Shores is correct and if you find a set for a 08-up all you have to do is plug the o2 sensor bung with a proper size bolt.

Ok, great makes it easier to get what i want, more choices, have another question my fuel sender is bad and im seeing different part numbers and prices between the 1600s and 1700s but the images look alike can i put the cheaper 1600 sender in my 1700, also if anyone knows, do they both fail at around the same rate or maybe the later one are supposed to be improved ?

Oh hold on there champs, I have messed around with exhaust pipes are different the from what I remember the 1600 OEM mufflers are like a 1/8 in or 1/4 inch smaller main pipe diameter i d so the 1700s will flow better I'm pretty sure the header pipes are the same one is like a 4VM.......other is 5VM...... If I remember correctly

He is looking for aftermarket exhaust options not oem. A lot of dealers that sell aftermarket exhaust have them listed as 1600 only or 1700 only. They don't know that they will fit both .

I have posted this many times, read it, comprehend it...... the first 3 numbers & letters only identifies the object= bike in this case......

thanx dave, i see that, pauli466 , make sure youre ready if u get V&H or equivalent, they are not as good quality material or chroming as OEM, many here opt for dual exhaust. A LOT OF PEOPLE BUY NOISY ASS PIPES , only to grow weary of them after time goes by. i often see them listed on CL or FB MP. Im a wimpass muther fuqua, and i prefer stage one mod using OEM pipes. i gives just enuf rumble to wake people up when they are driving with their phone glued to their caged head. , but almost quiet enuf to sneak off to work before sunrise without waking all up. and,its free.ohohohoh, there are youtubes that play the different exhausts and pipes , or used to be so u can sample what itll be like.

the first part of video is stock, later it is stage 1 , also, you will still have the crossover , dont think any but the duals have a crossover

yep, noise is something folks tend to make a mistake with.

a raucus exhaust can sound cool if you´re doing local jaunts, but over a distance can be hell!

i went with the V&H pro pipe for my build (better scavenging) with anti reversion cones in the headers. it sounds like a bike doing its thing, but an 800km journey doesn´t leave me looking for the painkillers!

where you´re going to ride also counts for a lot. when i sold louder exhausts to my clients, i´d advise them about noise levels and reminded them that with the added volume comes responsibility. giving it the big one where you live and in town pisses people off and gains the attention of the law.

just a couple of things to consider…..

Sorry to jump in with this , but , I would like some pointers. I bought an 02 recently in hopes of doing a resale . Not sure what pipes are on it , I do know the Heat Shields are missing . Instead of some long drawn-out search , Heat Wrap is going on . What is the best application process to do this ? These may be V&H longshots .

The wrap comes with instructions just don't shortcut them and be neat about the wrapping.
