  • Warrior starter on RS.

    I know a lot of people have put a Warrior starter on the Road Star. I'm going to replace my starter to the Warrior starter, and was wondering about the armature differences, and if the gear is the same?
    I know that this is a direct bolt on, but am curious about the differences.

    It should be a direct fit. Now what I've been thinking about is the warrior charging system. As far as I can tell because the warrior bottom end is the same as the 1700 the stator should fit and work on our bikes.it is something like 30 some amp charging system. I have no proof because I don't have 1 to try or compare but when looking at other part numbers for cases and other parts pertaining to the stator it looks like there is no reason it shouldn't work. I also realize the reg/rec would need to be swapped out with it but that shouldn't take any real magic, it's just wiring. Have you done any poking around on this Duke?

      I believe that I do have a Warrior generator cover, but I haven't really checked it out.
      I need to dig it out of my stash. It's about time for me to clean up the shead and organize all my stuff. I'll check it out and let you know. I do know that the stater looks and bolts up the same as the 1600 and 1700s, but not sure if the windings are the same. I beleave the connector is different, but as you said, it's just wiring.

      Are you running the Warrior starter with your 110 ci?

        No, I'm using a high output Thunderfire starter.

          Did the gear end of that starter have extended shaft like the 1600 do?

          It it seems to me that the extended shaft would be better for a higher torque load.

            IIRC the starter was longer when side by side with the OEM. It's been a few years since I put it on. It never give me any problems so I haven't given it another thought.

              ??? The starter uses the battery not the charging system. If you have enough charge to keep the battery charges, why do you need the warrior charging system?? Just curious.

                I understand that the starter and charging system are 2 different systems. I was just talking about another Warrior part that might resolve a common issue with the R*. If you knew me and Duke you would understand why and how that part subject come up. We often check into and experiment with things that no one else will do. The charging system on the 1600's is a very weak system that is inadequate when electrical accessories are added. The 1700 stator upgrade is a common upgrade and if a Warrior stator and reg/rec will fit it would be the best charging system upgrade available. Duke is one of the guys around here that might have the part and knowledge about the subject.
