  • Roadwing shock install

I was thinking about doing the swap over one question can the mount be cut off the yamaha shock and then be welded onto the honda shock instead of messing with that bushing. I figure i can cut the mounts off both shocks with die grinder and then weld the yamaha mount onto the wing

I would imagine the heat would destroy the shock. Aligning it would be a challenge. Just get a Roadwing from smokescreens. “Don’t think too much, you’ll hurt the team.”

Lol....there are DETAILED instruction on here on the whole conversion process. Following exactly OR buy one already done from Smokescreen. Don't start hacking shit up!

Actually the instructions are not all that detailed like can the 3 prong sensor plug be used, isn't something needed to tell you the position of the piston. Or does the motor automatically shut down when the piston tops out.

Do you buy everything off the shelf for your bike, or do you try to fabricate something once in a while just to see if you do it, so you can call it your own

Since I like to ride my bike rather than ask questions and not about to reinvent the wheel I absolutely buy a product that is proven. I'll fabricate something if I absolutely have to but I am definitely not going to do that was something that has been done hundreds of times before. You can also get a manual rap so you have to worry about any electronics at all I have that on one of my bikes. A previous Roadstar I had a oadwing with no rap and it was fine and I have another roadwing to go on my other Roadstar without rap. I personally would not go the electronic route as it is totally unnecessary when you can have just nice little dial that easily fits under your seat.

Plus one for the manual rap. Mines mounted just under the passenger foot peg on the right side. Depending on riding conditions I can adjust on the fly.

I prefer to push a two dollar button than turn 100.00 knob , but then if i had your money i would have an ultra classic

Wife and I ride two up on 100+ mile trips regularly. We test rode the Ultra Classic several years at Bike Week. The Ultra Classic is too cramped for us, so we continue to ride the Roadstar. 2003 model.

FYI, the Roadwing with RAP was the 2nd best upgrade I made to the bike. Barnett spring clutch was #1. Stock slipped bad with my big butt and the wife when I twisted hard. Road a bit with the blown stock shock. Was not a problem (kind of), but messed up the rear tire real quick. Hey, had to ride while waiting on the Roadwing to arrive!!

My ebc spring came last week i pulled the clutch pack out to inspect it and it is in very good condition, i don't know what oil was in the bike so I cleaned the oil off all the clutch plates. I was going to soak them in the amsoil im going to using but i heard its better to use transmission fluid ,have you ever heard of using it, anyway if the ebc spring isn't strong enough ill go with the barnett conversion

My slipping was not from the oil I was using and I did not change the plates. So I did not soak the plates. If you are using new clutch plates, I can see a positive reason to soak them in the oil you plan to use, but no down side.

Good luck and get all the old gasket off!!

People can't ride right now where i live so we work on our bikes to make em more comfortable and to look good, i even moved the choke knob so its easier to get to while riding, did the same thing with passing lamp switch, i like things at my finger tips on a motorcycle i feel safer
