I've seen it and it is hilarious, brianmac. Maybe someone could invent a mirror that has headups display to show tach on one and oil temp on the other, gotta check the rear view every now and then anyway. I bought this bike with 7922 miles and if i am vigilant, i can have it for many years and make it my last bike i will ever own.

This is the tach I've been using and works great. I have my bikes rpm limit set at 5000 rpms, which I rarely go that high of RPMs, but if I do, it will not hurt the tach.
How did you adjust the tach for accuracy? Did you compare it to another tach or what.

Yes, I used a digital tach.

“Under the fuel tank green wire is the pulse/trigger wire on the left coil.....”

Think he meant to say the green wire on the tach is the one you hook to either the grey or orange wires of the coils.

                  I prefer analog dials.

A quick glance at a needle and where it’s pointing tells me what I want to know. Trying to read a bunch of small numbers takes too long.

This is the one I use.

I broke the glass on the first one. Swatting at a spider with my hat.

                      Still have the old one.

just a word on tachs for RS's. i have had RS's for over a decade, (cant remember ) , 3 of them. i only hit the rev limiter once of twice; theres guys here who hit it all the time, they say. but my shoulder top tach/dyno tells my foot to shift well B4 that point...........so i dont need a tach unless im riding behind some noisy ass scoots, or I had a kick ass stereo( which can also prove hazardous to your health) if u depend on hearing while riding, which I do not.

My god, I'm glad we are all different and spend our money as we see fit, you think the rest of the world don't know when to shift the R* lol, Some like to dress up their bikes & hit the rev limiter.

i guess i dont see a tach as jooleryon a bike, maybe on a dash of a musclecar. but some guys here say they hit the rev limiter frequently. i am most definitely an motorcycle enthusiASSt, and drive ASSertively, but i almost never hit it. the power band just takes a dump up there. dont get me wrong, these bikes are way powerful enuf for me.

Myself, I use a tach for informational reasons, not so much for shifting, or dress up.

I got a rough and dirty install of the 4000rpm diesel tach done yesterday, it is the same tach that Duke installed on his bike. Oh, and thanks Duke for the phone call and the help with installation instructions. The one pice shows where the tach is mounted, and the other is where i tied into one of the three white wire from the stator. The carb had enough fuel to fire it up and see the tach go to about 1100 rpm. I still have to get and external tach to set the bar mounted tach, So far, i am pleased with the install. No to go finish it.

I don't remember, and it's inclosed right now. You should be able to dial in the tach close with the switch, then fine tune with the adjustable pod.

Are you sure about that? The three white wires from the stator carry high AC voltage to the regulator where it is rectified to DC voltage and lowered to a manageable 14 volts before going to the battery.

Yes, the tack reads the frequency off one AC line. On the back of the tach is a switch, and a variable adjustment screw, to dial in the tach.

the diesel tach gets power from the ac side of the alternator for signal according to Duke and the instructions.

There is a 12volt +, 12volt -, and a signal wire on the tach. The signal comes from one of the stater wires. It reads frequency.

Okay, thanks. Tried to d/l the instruction manual from their site, but they want me to setup an account. Not happening.

If you have to ‘dial it in’ what do you compare it to, to be accurate?
