  • Choosing a new battery for your bike.

Choosing a new battery for your bike. I normally dont like to endorse product brands, BUT. I always have 3 or 4 motorbikes , so i have some experience with them. My local Repair shop sold me a DEKA maintenance free battery many years ago, he said it had 2 year free replacement, and i had good luck with it. So i bought another, and another, and that is all i will buy now(from other sources, he was pricey) i have one from 2014, which i mistakenly replaced for bikeweek in march sitting on shelf., thinkin for sure it would die. but it is still fat.
they are sealed, absorbed glass mat (AGM) no filling, no leaking. AS SUCH , THEY CAN BE SHIPPED TO YOUR HOUSE! ( my local dealer had to order it also). A good battery is worth waiting for also, and having one is a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I was getting them for 90ish$, i see they are a little more now, IMHO, its time to do away with WET batteries.

there is newer technology, lithium iron, but i dont think its ready for me yet.

I'm sold on the AGM battery. Been running them for some time now. You can get one for the same price or cheaper than a lead acid battery. No vile shit spewing out on your bike either. I got one on Amazon, a Motocross brand AGM, for around $80 delivered. I think it's been in there 3 years now. I'll wait a few more years before I try a Lithium one. I want to see where the technology goes.

Just remember if I'm right an AGM is a lead acid battery it's just sealed and it has fiberglass in between the lead so keep it stabilized and from sloshing around I think

just remember the Lithium ion batteries cant be just swapped in. they can be sensitive to charge voltage and most companies will suggest replacing your REG/REC if you go to that type of battery....

on the PLUS though. I switched to a lithium ion battery on my vstar. talk about small!!! and ULTRA light weight. … check out antigravitiy batteries. awesome stuff...pricey, but if you need compact, crazy cranking amps and light weight, lithium ion is the way to go.

Yea I have a power sports AGM that's 9 years old in my bike. My son has a Autozone AGM in his 02 Roadstar that's 7 years old. Both still going strong.

Aprilgot the link didnt grab a product, but as long as it is a an AGM , sealed , maint free , should be good to go, all ive ever seen at wally world or ottozone are wet batteries, where you have to measure and add acid...............

I don’t mess with those cheap, box store batteries. The YUASA batteries I buy do come dry, but with a ‘Wet Pack’ that’s so easy to add the acid it’s foolproof and simple.

                    No fuss.

Go to Auto Zones website and type in Motorcycle batteries... Lots of AGM.

I would prefer a battery that you have to add the acid when you receive it. The shelf life of a battery starts after adding the acid.
I'd like to try the Lithium ion battery, but they are a little expensive, and they need to prove them self for longevity before I purchase one.

AGM is the only way to go... Shelf life??? Mine was installed in 2011 and The Autozone AGM was in 2012. I can't see much to critique about them. Except maybe you enjoy dealing with the acid. ?? But to each there own..https://powersportbatteries.com/6419...-battry-ls.jpg

I.m not sure what's wrong with the OP or others that don't understand that AGM has nothing to do with who adds the acid or when, they are both sealed once you add the acid and are both glass mat.

What I mean is AGM glassmatt are sold with acid already installed and also where you add the acid yourself.

These are the batteries that come from Yamaha new in the bike, AGM you put in the acid one time, or the dealer does, 7 years on the original and still works although I changed it for another Yuasa. https://www.yuasabatteries.com/batte...ree-batteries/

Yusa has two batteries for a roadstar the better one has 310 CCA'S. I wouldn't by a battery that doesn't list the cca capacity. Because thats really what your paying for, i don't buy batteries that are already filled and charged unless im stuck or need it right away. The way you put acid in these days is simple no measuring no spill system's are used

Yes, the day you add the acid, let it sit for 24 hrs. soaking then throw the trickle charger on it at a charging rate of 1.8 amps x 5 ~ 10 hrs LMAO

The born date is important if your buying filled and charged motorcycle batteries, not so much when you buy with the self fill kit but even then it is not recommended to go older than 2 years.

I always buy Deka batteries for my bikes. I replaced a Deka battery in one of my bikes and when I took it to the battery store I found out it was 5 years old. That is a good life for a motorcycle battery. Had other brands and was lucky if I got 1 1/2 years.
