I did mine with the stock Barnett springs. The lever distance between "start to grab" and fully locked is about half of what it was, but I am not finding it to be a major issue. The lever pull takes about 1/3 more effort, and seems to be a more consistent pull force across the range of motion. All in all I think I am comfortable with it already. I think the HD springs would have driven me nuts.

Any change in the friction zone? My stock 1700 2006 vs the 2003 with Barnett clutch are two different animals. The Barnett's friction zone is less requiring greater skill vs the stock clutch. I think the 03 may have heavy duty springs as the PO wanted racing gear installed. With that being said, the Barnett kicks butt and takes names.

Good Job! There's nothing like learning the in's & out's of your own bike. It only gets easier & better from here.

    New Barnett and clutches installed

First, Thank You to all of you who provided knowledge and insights into the previous post on old site. I know it would have been a lot harder without the information you all provided.

I had no trouble with the gasket at all (I presume because dealer did recall about a year ago.) I replace the clutches and steels. I had ordered the Stock Yamaha kit because the bike was my only running vehicle at the time, and with over 75,000 on the clock, I wanted to just "be sure." Also did the Barnett clutch with stock springs.

All in all, this was the second easiest thing iv'e done on the bike (oil change is first.)

I would say it feels like a new bike, but never having ridden one I wouldn't know. I really like the feel of the clutch, both pull and grab. No slipping at all anymore. I'm very happy I went with the stock springs instead of the Heavy Duty I was considering. I can't ever see myself needing more.

The best part of doing this was how much more I got to learn about the bike.

    Again, thanks all.
