    Hi guys I'm ready for the cool temps. Well let's begin, I tore the carb off my 99 1600xv because of a backfire issue and not knowing whether the previous owner changed the jets when he installed a bak and removed the ais system. Plus I removed the old exhaust and installed a nice Cobra swept exhaust system. Also new fuel pump (Ebay special). 37.5 jet and a barons jet kit. Also new diaphragm and cover. Well tried to start and fuel shot everywhere. I think I replaced the needle valve. Or maybe the cheap fuel pump to much pressure. Maybe time to go pumpless. Any suggestions??? Wat involved in going pumpless?

    where did fuel shoot from? Fuel bowl seem? throat of carb? fuel bowl vent? Need more info.

      my guess is the little tiny o-ring for the accelerator pump.

      Fuel came out of the fuel bowl vent, and a port at upper left side of carb.

        Maybe throat also. Though I'd ordered an all balls carb kit but turned out to be an k and l or h and l kit.

          I think I changed the little o ring under the accelerator pump.

            with that much gas coming out the vent, maybe you didn't put the needle valve back in or the o-ring on the needle housing.

              Uuuuuhhhh!!!!!!! Practice makes perfect right? Lol! Tried to search some old threads about going pumpless.. any thoughts??

                going pumpless is OK but won't resolve the issue that you have right now. your float is sticking for some reason. check to see if the screw that holds the float pin in is somehow making the float stick open.

                Did your aftermarket pump have a pump pressure spec with it? Did it claim to be for a R* and come from a reputable store like JP cycle?

                  Yes will do. Do you think it's possible the aftermarket fuel pump is putting out at a higher psi ? Thanks for all the responses, really appreciate the time and info!

                    No it came from Ebay. Didn't find out till after receiving it that have to beware of certain knockoffs. Think I still have the old one. May have to try to pick up another old one still in working order. Was trying to replace sum things before they break down. Have to rethink that idea from this point on.

                      If the old one wasn't broke put it back on. It would be an easy test to see if the new pump is the wrong pressure. and blowing fuel by the float valve. If it still leaks fuel you will have to go back into the carb to see what is happening in there.

                          5:30 update... found rebuild kit, looks like in my haste I did forget sum items. Were u guys talking about the little o-ring under the spring at bottom of accelerator pump?

                              Ok. Popped the new one in. Have 2 o-rings left. Will check manual to see if I can locate where they might go. Hope to get back this weekend. Only a few more weeks left here in Maryland for crabs. Just got off call so got to try to have a few. Thanks again

                                The Needle and seat assembly slides into the carburetor and there's an o-ring around it that keeps fuel from going around the brass

                                    Hello the new seat had a new o-ring on it. I'm thinking the kit has extra o-rings for additional models. Hoping to try to reinstall this evening after the Honey-do list

                                      SHE LIVES!!!!!! Finally got it started. No leaking fuel so far and no backfiring so far. I did notice that after pushing the choke in the idle didn't change. I did do a rebuild kit on the choke. Anyone dealt with this problem?

                                        Did you have it pulled all the way out or just 1 click?
                                        Was it running at a high idle but didn't settle down when you pushed in the choke?
