  • Torque Wrench Recommendations

Buying my first torque wrench. So many options, kind of overwhelmed! Any suggestions?

No specific brand suggestions, but definitely get an inch/pound one also for the small bolts. You risk stripping the small bolts using a foot/pound wrench at the lower torque levels. They are most accurate in their middle range. I just bought a cheap one since it isn’t used that often.

Click-type is better in my opinion. The bendy one is kind of iffy. You can get one at Harbor freight in 1/4 , 1/2, or 3/8ths for $19.99.

Dont use a torque wrench on m6 bolts, you will definitely strip them, for anything else harbor freight is your friend.

Look around at pawn shops. There's where I find most of my tools. I think I got my Foot snd Inch clicker wrenches as a set for about $50 total.
Beam type torque wrenches are better for tasks like preloading bearings.
        Manuals, Roadwing, other stuff

I'm going to offer some contrary advise. I have several different torque wrenches in differing sizes to meet the needs of the job. (I work on cars and motorcycles as a hobby). The best, most useful torque wrench I own is a Kobolt digital. It ain't cheap, but it has multiple scales at the touch of a button and is accurate to a fault. It is the only wrench I would use when doing my transmission work. For general grunt work, Harbor Freight torque wrenches are ok, but I have not found them to be super accurate, with repeatable results.

Honestly, I did a whole engine/transmission rebuild on my Road* and the Pittsburgh torque wrench from Harbor Freight did what it needed to do. It may be harder to get exact foot pounds because it's not a digital adjustment but you're saving on a ton of money on an item that will do the job. It all depends on your budget. I like to save money when I can. Most Harbor Freight hand tools aren't recommended but this would be fine.
