  • Can't find speed sensor connector 2012 Roadstar Silverado

I'm trying to locate the speed sensor connector on my 2012 Roadstar Silverado but I'm not having any luck. I've removed the seat and the cover below it and have found several connectors but none of them are even close to being compatible with the connector on the SPEEDODRD Y1 that I purchased. The connector on the speedodrd is triangular and the one's on the bike that I've found are rectangular. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just did mine...it's in there. If you want go ahead and remove the actual sensor on the rear of the motor and that wire terminates in that area under the side cover.

From what I can see there's a rubber boot that covers some connectors and don't think it's in that bundle. There's also a bundle of wires that is covered in a sleeve. Is it in the sleeved bundle or is it in another spot under the cover? I'm not looking to remove the sensor just want to hook up the speedodrd module.

The connector for the speed sensor is housed in a bell shaped rubber sleeve full of wires and plugs behind the engine case accessed from the left side.

I tried posting a picture with it circled, but the forums is on some restriction on bandwidth for posting pics.

        Good luck.

Are you sure you purchased the correct item for your fuel injected Roadstar?

Thanks Bikerron. I probably just missed it when I looked through that sleeve this afternoon.

I'll take another look in the morning.

Hi Shores. Yes, It's the correct speedodrd module, Model Y1.

I probably just overlooked the connector in my eagerness to get it installed. Lol

I installed the speedo healer on mine and I believe the connector was behind the left side panel or possibly on the left side near the battery compartment. It has been working great for years.

My DRD enhanced speedometer is dead on, balls accurate. Just used an app for GPS Speed on the phone and taped it to my tank to get a reading for calibration.

Yeah, mine is reading roughly 6% too high at the moment so I'm looking forward to having an accurate speedo. The speedodrd seemed to get great reviews and the price was right so I figured I'd give it a try.

I’ve had the SpeedoDRD on my R1 for years. Works great. I’m pretty sure I have recommended it around here quite a few times. Basically any modern Yamaha (and many other vehicles) all use the same one.

Speed sensor wire is a pain in the ass to get to on a Roadstar but as has been mentioned, keep at it and you’ll find it. It’s down in there.

                    Well I found it!

Used my GPS to calculate my correction percentage (which ended up being - 08.3% @60mph) programmed the module and went for a ride. Now it's spot on!

                    Thanks everyone for your help!

Would you be willing to snap a picture of where this s on the bike? You know for us dummies.

I have the same bike as the OP and this thread was very helpful to me.
After removing the left side cover I found the connector inside the 'rubber bell' protector close to the centerline of the bike and directly forward of the battery. My bike required a -07.7 correction. Other similar bikes might require a different amount depending on the size and condition of the tires, but this may be very close to the amount you need.
Edit: the grey wire to the connector which shown in the picture above was black on my bike, but it was the correct connector.

I use it in school zones, and around cop shops! Lol

Mine doesn't work, hasn't for years, just like the fuel gauge. Thankfully, I don't care if they work. That's the cheapest solution.
