ID:	81670 Have tried out 8 different bikes in the last few weeks. Had a chance to try out some Yamaha, Indian, Honda and HD bikes. After all of the bikes and those that i have enjoyed the most, I would of thought getting back on my bike would of been a let down feeling. It was a total opposite of what i expected. I really enjoyed and was happy to get on my bike and the way it rode. Power wasnt as much as the new Indian, HD and Yamaha touring bikes, but wasnt a slug either.

What really got me thinking is the how much stuff I had put on my bike over the years e.g. fairing, lowers and trunk. I really liked the way the Indian Chief Vintage handled and how light it felt. Simple windshield and soft bags. Had a blast on that bike and wondered, well my bike was once one like this and I have most parts to strip back down so why not I am on vacation lets give it a try! Took the fairing, lowers and trunk off. What a difference all of that weight coming off makes a bike feel and handle great. Simply love it as simple as it should. As the title states: less is more and in my case it has given me a new to me bike that I will most likely keep setup this way!

Just thought I would share guys! JC

I agree...my white bike is stripped all the way down..one seat (Dragger potato chip style) no passenger seat/sissybar/pegs....no windshield...no turn signal bars....no lightbar....no crashbar....single front brake caliper....custom aluminum wheels, no fork covers... 10 in mini apes...it's a great riding in town bike...handles quick and maneuverable.

Purple bike is 2 up tourer. Silverado windshield with bag, big bar crashbar, cobra lightbar, all original turn signal bars, ED Big Touring rider seat, stock rear seat tall sissybar and pad, quick detachable hard leather bags, beach bars Throttle lock, luggage rack stock spoke wheels....it rides smooth and comfy as can be but "feels" like a much bigger/taller bike than the white one.

Both are 2000 Roadstars. They look and ride/feel much different for being twins essentially!

it's nice to ride both and can't really say I prefer one over the other...they are just different

They are stock bars from a Dyna FXDWG. Made by Khrome werks. Not sure of the part number all stock cables and brake lines used.

I like my 2001 with nothing on it. I think it looks sharp long, dark and stretched. It reminds me of the 59 and 60 caddi hearses I had at one time. Last bike I built I put almost 15 grand into it over the time I had it. Best of everything Rivera, crane, original sifton and that stuff and when I sold it only got 4 thousand for it. All it was worth being a shovelhead.

I so get that... I'm fortunate to have 3 R*s... one has all the stuff in case I'm going distance, higher speeds, or with the wife. But, one's a handling solo-rider with 18" aluminum wheels with sport bike tires, and the other is a low-slung bobber. It all depends on where I'm ridin', and what mood I'm in. In each case... there's an R* to meet the need! There's a BIG Indian/Yamaha dealer nearby, that used to sell Victory... I went to their factory ride days, and tried their new models. They were nice... but, when it was all said and done, I got back on my R* and it reminded me why I chose it in the first place. Been a Roadie owner and rider for more than 12 years now... nothing's convinced me to change horses yet! As far as I'm concerned, they're just right!

I originally put my fairing on just for long trips and I got lazy and didnt take it off. This weekend I was going over my bike to get ready for a 4 or 5 day trip and it didn't pass the flop test. I had to take the fairing off to tighten the bearings and when I got done I left it off to test ride it and I miss all that wind. Of course I put it back on for the trip but it's coming off as soon as I get back

I rode without my windscreen couple of days ago, it was nice, but I still put it back on. I get fatigued pretty quick without it.

I used to always have a windscreen, I am real skinny don't weigh much so windscreen helps on long rides. But this bike dosn't have one, bracket is there to mount one may look into it. Have been using a full face helmet now and then but it is heavy and I can't look to the side without it straining my neck.

does the white one have hidden lights and signal's. 73 was the last year you didn't need to have turn signals on the bike. It looks sharp.

What are the wheels on the white bike?

License plate frame has integrated run/brake/turn LED lights...also added another LED lightbar on top of license plate frame tons Hine on rear fender to make me more visable at night. Front forks have LED amber strips for turn signals.

Thanks it was my first mild customizing build and was a ton of fun. Basically a conglomeration of a lot of nice used parts done on the cheap.

Nice bikes indeed Lug Nut! It is very interesting how these bikes can be setup. That to me, makes it very entertaining and fun.

Stripped this 99 model down in 2001 and it ended up very light in 2002. Had other sickles to ride so took my time. Only wish I would have left the duel brakes on. Click image for larger version

Yellerbike I do like your forward controls with the small floor board. Never seen that before real neat must be comfy on long rides! JC

A few years ago I test rode a new 1900 and whilst it was quite impressive I thought my old 99 was better in some ways, the 1800 Honda wasn't what I thought it would be either, there seemed like a bit more power but when I got back on mine again it just seemed to fit me better
