my first "laid down " was when i was young and more stupiderer than i am now. i cut thru a petrol station to beat a light, and hit the oil streak where "older" cars always leaked when they stopped to pump. just enuf to put a little on both tires, shot out into traffic and slid out prolly 20 mph, had gear on,(gloves, leather, brain bucket)). it aint fun when you split 45 mph cars like a cow stampede, and engine is revvin like a madwoman............... 2nd time i was drunk as a skunk, after a light rain, just enuf to bring up the oil in the asphalt. i hit the brakes at a stop sign, spun around 360 came to a stop at the stopline, surprisingly, and put my feet back down, holy smokes, went back home and hung up the keys............mandatory helmet law in that state,

The three times that I can remember 'laying it down' were 1.) turning the corner onto Rosecrans in San Diego, trying to look cool by 'turning at speed'....hit some sand that wasn't evident, and dropped the bike in front of traffic... mostly embarrassment and injury to pride. 2.) trying to beat the light at a left turn lane....crossed the 'oily spot' between the tire ruts on the road, and sent my bike skittering into the intersection. Again, no injuries. 3.) After unpacking my household goods at home following separation from the Navy, after putting one gas can worth of gas into my 1982 CB900F, I rode to a nearby gas station to fill the tank. The tank was a new spare that I had bought to allow my bike to be packed in the household goods (also had to get a new battery- they didn't allow lead /acid batteries as well ) Started out from the gas station, pulled out onto the street, and promptly dropped the bike. It turned out that, in packing my bike, the company7 somehow cracked the side of the gas tank in a way that wasn't visible, and when I put more fuel in the tank, it flowed through the crack onto the ground and soaked my rear tire, causing severe lack of traction. Got a bit of road rash from that one due to lack of full riding gear.

Wow! I'm glad you are ok! I'm surprised there isn't more damage to your bike not having highway bars on it at that speed.
My bars saved my legs a couple times. Also helps picking the bike up. Well worth getting some.

i dont remember if highway bars helped me lift the bike up, it tipped over in sugar sand once trying to do a 180 on a tiny dead end., only choice. but the floorboards sure keep bike from horizontal/ i lifted it up with legs, cant remember what i grabbed, dont think it was highway bars.
