  • First Motorcycle accident.

I had to lay it down today. Now I am looking for replacement parts. Scared the heck out of me. Glad I was wearing a helmet and a jacket with some armor. I am starting to get stiff in the knees. I have a little road rash. Very lucky. To start with I am looking for a light bar assembly and a new windshield (tall). I just hope there is no serious damage. I attached a picture. I am not sure what else I might need.

So, what happened? Looks like you left high way peg got bent upwards a bit. Unlikely anything really serious. Hey, you walked away, count your blessings.

I was driving in Plano on the toll road. I’m not sure if I didn’t leave enough distance between me and the truck or what. It was a four-lane road in Frisco/ Plano TX and there was concrete barriers on the far right lane where I was and I just had nowhere to go......the truck slammed on his brakes and I was either going to go over his tail gate through his back window or hit the concrete side barrier. I was probably going to 60-65 when hit the brakes and went into a slide. I made the choice to lay it down. It happen so fast. I am happy I did not go into the left lane.

No doubt you were following too close.

It has the Silverado plate on the windshield. From the center of windshield it measures 21 and 3/4. About.

That's true! Broke a rib doing 20 mph and got thrown down at a bad RR crossing. Good to hear you just need stuff for your bike...Ace

Glad to here you walked away. It's no fun skidding down the highway. Good thing you were wearing some gear. If your bars got bent at all I have a set of stock bars I'll give you

Glad you’re doing okay, bike parts are replaceable, you are not. Bubbakahuna had some Silverado upgrade kits he was selling, had the windshield and light bar might take a look at the post on here.

Pretty lucky you are asking for parts on here instead of sipping your supper thru a straw. Glad you are ok. JC

Glad you are alright and able to be here looking for parts and not in the rider down section. Very lucky going down at that speed and I'll bet you're an ATGATT disciple now! Not sure if you had them on originally, but a set of highway/crash bars may be a good addition. They help create some space between the bike, the road and your leg when you lay it down. (Ask me how I know). Good luck getting the bike straightened out and be safe out there.

I laid a bike down once with my sister in her car right behind me. I stopped sliding and then rolled to the side of the road, and she stopped right where I had been laying.

there is no better way to say it, but unfortunately, you lost control of the bike. A bike stops better when both tires are touching the ground, and both brakes are applied proportionally by an experienced rider. laying it down is a real old fashioned, cool way of saying this. soul search to find out why it happened. AGAIN TO ALL , PRACTICE YOUR PANIC STOPS! thank god you are all right.

I agree with you. I am a new rider and I think I panicked.
