Yeah wife's don't often see much humor when things go from the kitchen to garage.

That's a good idea with the "redneck funnel". I changed it once while on my HF stand....wat a f&%#ing mess! Since that I've been putting a 4 x 4 under the stand to make it level-ish. I found a big flat Tupperware container in the cupboard and drain it into that. Wife found out and was really pissed off.....maybe that's why she's my ex.....well among other things I guess LOL.

On my HF jack style lift I can get to the plugs. Last time I changed it I used an old license plate and bent the end to hook on the bike frame. It created a funnel to my bucket. Not the most ideal but worked without incident.

highvoltage I think the "ride on" lift is the table style instead of the jack under the frame.

I've never had a problem getting an oil pan under the bike while on the lift. If you position the lift on the right place, it will give you acces to both plugs. I use a lift that I purchased a few years back. It is similar to the HF lift. What is a ride-on lift ?

Throw 2-4oz of Seafoam in the oil and take it for a ride. Then do your oil change. Oil will come out BLACK! I use Mobil 1 V-Twin oil. Use an OEM filter if available, otherwise NAPA/Wix gold. (Stay away from Fram Filters).

Well, once it's on a lift, how do you get a pan under it to catch the oil? The lift interferes with everything... usually one of the plugs becomes inaccessible, too... or are you talking a ride-on lift with wheel lock?

I place mine on the bike lift. I always change the oil after I ride for at least one hour. Always change the filter and 4 qts out, 4 qts in.

I leave mine on its side stand, but, so that my Snap-On thinwall 17 mm wrench will fit on the head of the front plug, and so that the large kitty litter pan will easily slide under, without interference, I tip the bike and place a paver brick, fat-side down, under the side stand for that extra 2" or so that makes the extra room for it all to happen. (Oh, and I use Amsoil 10w-40 for Metric bikes, shhhhh! )

Sometimes I do it hot for a quick change, or sometimes I do it cold, and just leave the plugs out and let it weep overnight or longer.

Side stand ...loosen and remove drain plugs...and use some wood (2×4 and 1x4) under the side stand to make it more level while draining...

I use three blocks 1and a half inches thick. One under each wheel and one under the kick stand. Drain pan fits and regular length wrench fits under. 4 quarts out 4 quarts in.

    Oil change time

Now I’m sure this topic has been discussed to death.... but.... is it best to drain/ change the oil on the side stand or on a bike lift so it’s upright??
