  • Fuel pouring out of bike when lying it on the right side

    When I was practicing tight turns I dumped the bike on its right side. Fuel poured from somewhere and I rushed to pick it back up pronto as the fuel was pooling quickly. never had that happen before. Any ideas what I should look for? the right side of the bike was soaked with gas. Also, gas cap leaked gas when the bike was tipped over. I guess it needs to be changed Thanks for any responses.

    Sounds like the float was open letting gas pour out the carb. If the cap is vented would of came out from there.

      Do you have the tank vent hose connected with the rollover valve? If you removed the vent hose that would do it. How full was the tank?

        I will check the vent hose. The bike had some work done to it 2 weeks ago. has about 1/2 tank of gas. It was pouring out briskly. If there would have been a spark, the bike would have been done. Had to leave clothes outside when I got home due to gas smell.

          That is NOT a good way to determine your maximum lean angle!
          As was said above, the needle valve was probably open when you laid it down and the gas poured out from the carburetor .

            Thanks to the wide Cobra crash bars the bike is manageable to pick it up rather fast. I have a habit of trying to push the bike a bit hard when practicing in parking lots. Really enjoy the cone weaves and figure 8 type riding. Trying to get the bars to go from lock to lock is a challenge. I am a big fan of police-style riding. The weight and torque of the Road Star is addictive in a parking lot ham-fisting it around in a safe environment as below 10 mph.

            Sort of a hobby project as I enjoy taking a riding course once a year. gets me out of the house after work. I appreciate the advice given here.

            Replace your gas cap with a sippy cup lid. Then, you won't spill as much. And, instead of riding around a friggin' parking lot, you could be out trying to win the Road Star Scavenger Hunt. Now, snap to it man.

              drums , i like it, never happened before, so you have "set" her down before,and it didnt spew feul? you dont have your bike year model listed , i luv that your practicing manoovers!, if u have a carb, turn up the idle to a comfortable spot when doing lock to lock practice, in this manner, you just need to steer, clutch and brake. when you get good, do it after a 6 pack in wet grass with uneven dirt. after a while u lose the "fear" to dump it. when it feels like its going down, turn straight, let out clutch. here is one that the "lose the pump" idea is not such a great mod.

                Next time it’s laid over on the crash bars get an iPhone and measure the angle.
