John, that's really cool.  I'm guessing you did some custom manufacturing and modifications to get it to work?  Would you mind sharing how you did it and what parts you used?

I had three different drivers backrests. (ordered the ED seat without the backrest, and did not want to drill/install afterwards).

I ended up with the one that looked terrible when I first saw it and never even considered until I got one in a good deal, the Kuryakyn.

I hated the way it looked with the big mounting bar when I first started shopping,
but besides having plenty of adjustments, it worked as a nice additional handle for my passenger.

Since I have always ridden solo, I didn't notice, when I ordered my driver's backrest.

The ED passenger seat mounts just like the OEM and the Drivers Backrest mount to the front of the passenger seat. Go the ED website and look at the ED passenger seat and you will see how it looks

IIRC, the E.D. driver's backrest mounts to the upper bolt through the rear fender. I don't know how the passenger seat mounts.

I only used it with the ED driver seat which I eventually returned and got an Ultimate. Works with the Ultimate also. The bracket bolts under the OEM passenger seat bracket so it should work with both seats or you can just bolt the bracket to the three passenger seat bracket holes if using only the driver seat. Mine is custom installed though on top of the chrome Diamondback fender trim.

Yes...what Dave said. MIKE IS GOOD TO WORK with see if he can add the rider backrest for $100-$200 or so...would be the best solution. My ED seat, stock passenger seat and pad...and aftermarket rider backrest don't match perfectly but honestly not too far off.

what is wrong with just buying the ed backrest and mount it yourself? The cost can't be much different than buying an aftermarket backrest and rigging it to fit the bike and then having a mis-matched leather seat. The vinyl cover will match with the ED and won't with aftermarket. I'm sure if you contact Mike (chiefriceburner) he will help and advise on what is needed.

Inhave an ED rider seat (Big Touring) and a OEM Yamaha passenger seat and OEM tall sissybar and pad. I just added a rider backrest that uses the bolt that mounts the rear fender. Works fine. Not sure if this will work with the ED passenger pad.

I have one of these and it does the trick. Not adjustable, but fits me well. You could adjust by bending the bracket, but I haven’t needed to,

started a topic Adding a rider backrest to an ED seat

Adding a rider backrest to an ED seat

I started having a lot of back and hip pain when riding, and when I went to the doctor about it, I was diagnosed with arthritis in my SI joint. "Yay!"

After trying a ton of different things over the past few weeks, I ended up using a soft trunk I have that can be mounted on the passenger seat to use as a rider backrest, and voila! No pain.

Problem is, I JUST bought my ED rider and passenger seats a little over a month ago. And my current setup with the soft trunk is no good for 2-up riding.

Is there a way to add / use a rider backrest with an ED big touring seat and ED passenger seat? Other than buying the ED passenger seat with the integrated backrest?

I'm REALLY hoping to not have to sell the passenger seat I've already got and rebuy one. I'd be out a ton of money for something my wife has less than 100 miles on. Even if I were to sell it to help offset the cost of a new one.

I'm worried I already know the answer, but thought I'd ask.

    Thanks!
