Low fuel light is on, even with fuel in tank. I just inherited this bike and have no idea how to rectify. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

That's normal for these bikes Probably sending unit in tank, not a hard fix. This is the first bike I ever owned with a fuel gauge and thought it was cool until I realized I couldn't trust the gauge. I just watch my mileage and fuel up at 160 miles.

For 70+ years motorcycles didn't have fuel gauges. The rider simply opened the cap and looked inside. No reason you can't do the same. You have a reserve, if you run out of gas, flip it to reserve and go to the nearest gas station. Save yourself a lot of money.

I agree with all of the above... and maybe I’m old school but it’s just a good thing to know when your bike will go on reserve. My previous R* was a fuel injected 2008. The gas gauge didn’t work at all if the wire (Green?) got pinched under the back of the tank where it meets the seat. No damage to the insulation but must have loosened up somewhere. Problem solved when the wire was freed up. Now I can’t remember if that bike had a reserve. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out how to put my first fuel injected bike on reserve until I was told fi bikes don't have them.

My current R* is a 2006 (carb)which I didn’t inherit, but it had been sitting for 3 years when I bought it. 3 years later the gas gauge works only when it feels like it. I remember that it loosened up a bit after a few tanks and I was also probably adding seafoam at the time after its 3 years off. There are so many other things I would rather spend my R* dollars and time on.

yeah, how the hell did we do it without gas gauges for all those (pre-cell phone) years?? you could reset one of trip odometers when filling up also, when you flip over to reserve with a NON PUMP LESS , its an instant recovery. also, turn the gas cap cover 180 degrees as a reminder., or take your pink bandana off and wrap around mirror. those choppa bikes have an external clear gas line showing fuel level in tank.... get an skull sticker to cover the idiot light on your dash from blinking. I rarely look down anyhow.
OH YES, I TURN OFF MY COCK when ign is turned off. i used to not, but my oil always smelled like petrol. SUNNY FLORIDA and a black ass tank . you can see the fumes, well , fuming , out the bottom of the bike from afar , as they distort visual images to the human eye.

I run my '00 R/S HotRod pumpless (since '08) & ride with the petcock on reserve all the time.
That keeps any moisture from stacking up in the bottom of the tank & the motor pulls better in the upper RPM range.
I gas-up when the gas gauge (that still works) gets below half-tank.
