  • Mounting Quik Release windshield WTF

I am at a total loss trying to mount this. There's nothing even remotely close to lining up to the holes in these brackets. I asked on here if all windshields fit all years, nobody said no. Do I need some other brackets, like the regular windshield mounts to mount these brackets to?

  • #2
Still confused. When I look at the ad for the Quick release windshield, it says STR-5VN03-40-00 required. When I look at the windshield mount it's STR-4WM03-40-00. The first one is not listed anywhere except in the ad for the whole thing. Don't know what to do.

I’m not sure about that bracket. It’s different than mine. Mines one piece I believe

Thanks for the pics but I am still lost. Is yours Factory? I was under the impression mine was.

Yes mine is factory but not a latch and quick release set up like the one you have. Mine has two screws on either side. That bolt windshield to my mount

Yes gillis.jordan yours is just a stock mount and not what they sold as the "quick release". The "quick release" uses a key to unlock and no tools are necessary to remove.

Looks like my lower cut out is a lot more square than the one in your picture.. I wonder if they changed them for certain years

          This came off a 2012 Road Star S. Mine's a 2006 Standard. Maybe it just won't work.

FB, lt looks like the brackets should bolt up to the two upper bolt holes on the top part of your triple tree, and should have a spacer on each side.
The lower bracket mount looks like it should mount on the part of the triple tree. I think the lower bolt for the headlight also bolts to those holes. Possibly spacers needed also.

Thanks to Duke and Mort, I finally figured it out. Once I removed my toolbag it became clear to me. I was right about one thing...I am a moron. I can't believe it took me that long to figure it out. I will put this bad boy on tomorrow. Looks like my wrong-way facing pullback risers may have to be turned around for the windshield to clear. I hope not, 'cause then the bar ends run into my belly at full lock. I'll have to find some different risers.

That diagram would have been very helpful a few hours ago, but thanks anyway for posting it. No , really, I should have figured it out in about 2 minutes. I used to work at a motorcycle shop man, I mean, come on! All these years of running on low oxygen have dulled my senses somewhat, I'm just not as quick on the uptake as I once was. Still got enough marbles to ride, that's the upshot.

I have the QD setup on mine. You're on the right track. There shoukd be a set of spacers for the lower mount points, if I remember correctly. Going to swap my rides Friday and I'll be able to get some pics. Been running the piss out of my SV for a couple of weeks, breaking in some new Pilot Road 5's. Gonna be a nice weekend and me and JimH are gonna tear it up Saturday.
If you drive forward on the install tomorrow, I WILL advise you, get everything "close" but not cranked down tight, then mount the shield, and THEN snug up the mounts. There's a little play in the setup. This was the best way I found to get the spools aligned nice. Also another word, it has to spring over center to lock in place, and it takes a surprising amount of oomph to pop it in there. I'm VERY happy with the setup, as most of the time I run without the shield, but love the easy on and off, and these mounts look WAY better when the shield is off. QD does not work with the old style passing lamp bracket, BTW. Not sure if it would work with the newer style cast bar. The old lamps and brackets gave me nothing but trouble anyway, so I tossed that shit. If I ever lamp up again, I'll use PIAA lamps on the crash bar. Haven't missed them much since I tossed em.

Wherever you go in life, ride there if at all possible.

Yea, well, I did pretty good today until I got to the lower left side bolt. I cannot get that sucker started to save my soul. Took me about a half hour to get the lower right one, but I did get it. Can't get to it with my right hand. I didn't remove the headlight but I did pull the bottom 2 bolts from the headlight mount which gives a little wiggle room, but not much. I WILL beat this bitch tomorrow if it short-dicks every pygmy in the Congo. ( I ripped that off from Slim Pickens in Dr Strangelove.) Will do hot photo session upon completion along with pics of my new chrome turn signal lenses. They sent me 3 chrome and 1 amber so I only have the rear 2 on right now but I kinda like them. Keeping my clear ones just in case. Waiting to hear back from Amazon / merchant. Just waiting for the sun to come back around now so I have ample light to get this final bolt in.

I know this is an old thread, but that diagram is exactly what i've been looking for! Anyone know the sizes of the bolts for the 2 top and 2 bottom holes of the brackets? Thanks

The second group of #'s in the part# tells you the diameter and the length in mm the pitch on these are either 1.25 or 1.50 maybe someone can jump in here.

based on info i got for part 22 (8mmx20mm x1.50), i think the lengths are (8)35mm and (10)25mm for the bracket bolts. Thanks!
