  • I feel sorry for these Road Stars

Okay, I know I can't be the only one on here who does this.
I don't know why but almost everytime I ride this bike I have to ride her hard, it's just so much fun, especially since I put on the 31T font sprocket.
0-35, shift to second, 35-50ish, shift to third, then back off because momentum now has me over 60. About 3 seconds of fun, but i'm smiling for much longer. I'm not sure but I think think this bike likes to be riden like this,
So, I don't always ride the shit out of my bike, sometimes I only ride it 1/2 to 3/4 hard.

So who eles has the same problem?

I do the same thing man. When you have the carb setup just right theres nothing like it. I use my goldwing for leisure and the roadie for fun. I havent put many miles on the wing since the cold went away.

Yes, they most certainly do love to be ridden hard. I just give them what they want. What's the problem? To treat them any other way is cruel.

Put a 31th sprocket on my 06 years ago for the same reason you did. I think it is in the DNA. I have friends that cannot understand that style of riding. I end up riding alone thus I can ride the way I wish. Some days, I chill and putt putt along, other days, the bike gets a workout. Last summer my riding was more on the tame side due to a head-on collision in front of me where the passenger died. I emergency braked but was riding chill that day. Once I get the clutch fixed I will be putting the 31th sprocket to good use.

I'm just the opposite. I'm now running the 33 tooth front, and a 65 tooth rear, which puts the RPMs at 2000 at 65 mph. The bike has more than enough power in the lower gears, and when I hit the highways, it cruises nicely. If I want to pass, I'll drop a gear or two.
I really like the torque feel when pulling the hills, and not needing to down shift if I don't want too.

Glad to know i'm not the only one!

i'm not sure what it is, these bikes are not super fast (at least not sports bike fast) but they way these spread out between first and 2nd gear is perfect. My Indian is fun. but first and 2nd tap out too quick. These bike give you enough time to enjoy them while your going up through the gears.. well at least until your partway into 3rd unless your feeling a little wild.
I think that the fact that they are also known for being so dependable, makes us believe that they can take it. I hope they can anyway.
I have read in several other threads where people are talking about having over 100k on them and ride the snot out of them all the time.
I love these bikes. (just wish I had keep my last 2 of them as well)

I know what you mean. These bikes are Clydesdales of motorcycles.

I really enjoy the third and fourth gear pulls with a slow steady increasing roll of the throttle clear the end of 4th. Right about to 85mph. Hit 5th let off and cruise at 75 to 80.

you just reminded me of one of my other favorite times when riding these bikes.
maybe loud pipes help with this.
pulling out of town in 3rd gear (leaving a 35mph zone) hitting the gas some like your taking off, then hitting it a little harder and sounding like your running it hard, then twisting a little harder, rev up some more, then twist it even harder before shifting into 4th. Sounds really cool when it just keeps reving through what seems like several levels before tapping out.

Can't feel bad for them when riding them hard is what they like the most. Besides, if they do break, you can always find another one cheap.

I am almost never able to just cruise. Every morning I say I am just going to take it easy.... Then I hit the freeway. I have a hard time keeping it under 100mph! My bike is my daily rider. I hate when I have to take my truck and I always come home happy when I ride.

Highway on-ramps are my downfall...if there's no one in front of me, or it's one of those 2 lane jobs, I like to crank it up to 90 - 100, which it does quickly and easily. After that though, I'm pretty mellow. It's enough to keep the carbon blown out.

Yeah, plus 1 on the highway on ramps, I always have to slow down when I get to the highway.
