  • Searching for an engine, Roadstar 1700

Hello, for my mate I'm searching for a complete engine, XV 1700 is favorite. Here in Europe they are very difficult to find. In the USA there are many engine's for sale, but a lot do not send to the Netherlands.
Does anyone here have some info ore tips to purchase this kind of parts and shipping to our country.??
    regards, Leon, aka Knutselsmurf.

That's a difficult one. I'd say first check locally to find out how others import from the US to NL, then finding a motor in the US should be pretty straight forward. I'm assuming you'd have to register the motor/bike as a custom, so might want to look into that as well. Would be a shame to get it there, build the bike, only to find out you can't use it on public roads. Maybe check with the Harley and American Hotrod groups in NL, If anyone would know, they would. There's always online forums, but for finding locals, you can't beat Meetup.com Do they sell the Yamaha Warrior in the EU? It's the same basic motor. If you're looking for a straight swap into a 1600 frame, it might be an issue, but if you're looking to do a ground up custom build, it'd work; although it's FI and you'd need an ECU as well. Best of luck and let us know how it works out.

Thanks for your reply. The Warrior is not a European bike, they also were imported from the States. So my friend needs a carburator engine. And indeed, It won't be an easy job.

Contact a local Customs broker in the Netherlands and see if there are any restrictions on importing parts like that. And trust me " Do Not" misrepresent anything on Customs paperwork. No matter what anyone tells you. We check outbound shipments like that all the time. I retired from US Customs last year.

Engine Found!! We found an engine in Germany. And finaly it cost as many as in the States, because we don't have to ship it overseas. An engine here in Europe cost about $1800, very different prices compared with yours.
          So this problem is solved.!!

Engine switch. The old, broken one in the back of the garage.

Glad you got it going and running. What was wrong with the old engine?

The bearings on the out-comming axle to the generator were fully worn out. Its bin riding with to less oil. The tried to make a repair with some copper bushing, but that didn't work out well.
