Anybody have one projectile they can send me? I need it to cast my taillight bulbs. I have been forming a plug from wax but am not really happy with the results.

Yeah, yesterday I built my taillight assemblies for the chopper, now I just need to make the lenses. I've got some LEDs I've been working with that I plan on casting into the lenses.

Thank you everyone, looks like Zingpow is sending me my projectile. Thank you Zing.

Here are some pictures of what I have going, a couple of shots of the assembly and one with the wax projectile in place.

So are the 3 casings going to have a projectile end that lights up as brake/turn lights? If so you'll have to give more details on how you did that. I'm also curious how you mounted the casings as that's a very clean look. Should be pretty cool when it's done.

After looking at your project I have to wonder why not just print the projectile/lens on a 3d printer? I'd be more than happy to do it for you.

I'm not familiar with 3D printing, is it translucent? I had toyed with the idea of casting the bullet and drilling it for the LEDs but decided to cast the LEDs right into the bullet.

It all depends on what plastic you use to print with...clear, translucent, opaque in an almost unlimited color spectrum. I already have a 3d model of a hollowed bullet with a built in shoulder that sits on the rim of the cartridge neck. All I'd need from you is the interior and exterior dimensions of the case neck to make sure the final project fits right. Since they're not very big it wouldn't take long to print out a handful for you to try if you want to give it a go.

Nice, clean job man. It is going to be AWSOME when finished. Must post pictures of the final product. Better yet, maybe a short YouTube showing run, stop and turn signal. Do not series the lights. If one burns out you loose both. Resistors is the way to go with l.e.d's.

Here's a picture showing what I did. I took them apart to polish the brass. It's mostly lamp parts. I drilled a hole in the side of the shell casing, used a hollow threaded tube and threaded couplers on the tube as spacers, screwed the threaded tube into the hole in the casing and soldered it. Other end of the threaded tube goes thru my mounting plate. The one on the right is short and the one on the left is the long to stand out farther.

Got some wires pulled. Now have to get the controller hooked up to the bike so I can test it with my bulb design. Still don't have an actual bulb built though.

Don’t lenses have to have that particular texture (fresnel?) to reflect properly?

Here is an update, got a bulb made, needs some tweaking. My pictures got out of order but the first one is with it on the bike and brake lit, second is on the bike, third pic is what I did with the LED's and fourth pic is testing the assembly before casting in bulb. I need to cast the LED's in the bulb closer to the shell casing and I might need to use red LED's because even though the lens is red it comes out as a very white light.

I build effect pedals & use LEDs all the time.
The brighter the LED, the more likely it will be white no matter what you put in front of it.
You really need to use red LEDs to get red light out of them.
That's what car makers use in their taillight arrays, super bright red LEDs behind a red lens.
