  • Clutch Conversion Barnett's Plate

    Has anyone run into this problem?
    Received the Barnett clutch conversion assembly # 511-90-10002, for my 2001 Road Star and the splines, "teeth", will not in-gauge into the clutch boss. I do have it lined up with the splines and they are very close to fit, but will not in-gauge with one another.

    I have did several of these conversations with no problems and noticed the Barnett's plate I received this time has 32 teeth, "same as our stock plates", The Barnett's plate I've done in the past had only 12 teeth.

    I'm Just wondering if I'm over looking something?

    I did mine this year and i had 32 teeth like yours. No problems engaging the teeth. Does the clutch boss look damaged at all?

      No, I can't find or see any problems on the boss. The stock plate fits just right. Taking measurements on the teeth , the inner and outer ends measures the same. I not sure how to measure the taper sides of the teeth.
      It's good to know that you have the 32 tooth plate. That tells me they do make this plate with 32 teeth.

        It could be a light manufacturing defect on the plate. Maybe that one tooth is slightly off angle. If it's preventing the plate from fitting on the boss then I'd file it slightly. I don't think that would affect durability or performance.
        Or contact Barnett and ask them for advice or a replacement.

          I sent Barnett a email, hoping for a quick response. I filed all of the starter part of the boss teeth just to smooth them up.

              It's the 511-90-10002 that made for our Road Stars. Barnett is now making them with teeth all the way around, 32 tooth.

              The 32 th is the only one I've ever seen. Never with only 12.

            I didn't look at mine from that perspective, but it looks off in your pictures. Almost like the boss teeth have a different profile than the plate's slots. Is it not seating all the way?

              Man too bad Duke. Doesnt look like it fits at all. Sure they will get back to you with one that works if some 32's are out there that works. Let us know when you get sorted out.

                  Agreed, profile doesn’t seem to align too well. I’m assuming the company will come through with a fix if they are worth a sh!t. Hope so.

                  Well, Barnett asked me to ship them that plate so they can inspect it, and they'll make it right, asap. Chance w/Barnett, did say that they start making them with 32 teeth about 4 years ago.
                  The teeth were not seating into the plate and I don't think the teeth profile are the same either.

                  This is one reason I do some of my major mods during the winter months, so it's not bothering me to much. Just want to make it right. I'll let you guys know what happens as soon as I find out. Thanks.

                    I received the replacement clutch pressure plate Saturday, and installed it this morning. It went together great and works like a charm.
                    Barnett did me right, mailing out another plate the same day they received my old one. No complaints from me now that they made it right.

                      I would expect nothing less from Barnett. A good AMERICAN company!

                    Why did the original not fit? Was it for a different bike?

                      The teeth were not machined right for our RS clutch boss. Barnett didn't say if there are other out there, just that the teeth were not machined right for that plate #511-90-10002 I sent back.

                      The 511-90-10002 is the right pressure plate for our bikes, and is the same as the # SR-2 plate.

                      Glad to hear they made things right for you and didn't give you a bunch of run around either. No one's perfect but it's how they respond to snafus that tells a lot about a company.

                        How does something like that happen? You would think there was some sort of quality control inspection to catch that. Someone would have had to know that something was changed in the machining process and check the part fitment after the tooling or whatever was changed.
