  • RAP adjustment - Who else can feel the change in ride height?

    Don't know of it's due to the type of seat I have, but I can *definitely* feel the difference in ride height, from seating position, between cranking my RAP *all* the way up or backing it way off. I even have to readjust my mirrors when I go from one extreme to the other.

    Just curious if anyone else notices this too.

    It doesn't change tthe ride height at rest. But it will support your weight more when you crank it up because you're preloading the spring. So basically your weight isn't pushing the bike down as much. I noticed the same with my roadwing. But when I measure the bike height at both ends of preload there's no change.

      Yup I notice it, especially when chasing my buddies in the curvy stuff. Two or three turns of the knob and it takes a little more lean to drag the floorboards.

        I thought I saw a video that showed the pre-load only moves about a 1/2"

          it only moves about a 1/2 inch at the shock but the linkage turns that into about 1 1/2 inches

        It doesn't move much but it does make a noticeable difference. The spring on the roadwing shock is significantly stiffer than the OEM one.

          Yes. Because the rising rate link will sit at a different angle with increasing preload, you are effectively reducing sag. I made a comfort and handling checklist and ran my preload up 10% at a time with 2 or 3 rides on each setting to assess if each increase netted positives or negatives. I settled on 30% as ideal for me solo, and 60% with my passenger. Going from zero to max is a great way to assess that you are changing things. The 12mm of travel is actually a massive adjustment considering the rate of spring you are compressing. That’s a LOT of stored energy.


          Wherever you go in life, ride there if at all possible.

            I can't wait to test my ride out , now that I've got the RaceTech Frontend to go with my already Roadwing. Which I did do the " Impossible " when I installed my Wing on a Flipped Relay Arm.

                  I don't notice ride height change but do notice handling difference.
                  I've never done the comparison differences the way jd750ace says he does it, but I will. Thanks jd that was a good tip.

                    The more you increase the adjustment on the roadwing the easier the bike will go into corners
