  • Throw length of shift

So I fragged my clutch and decided to take it apart look it over in doing so I was pushing and probing things inside the clutch area put it all together to wait on my plates to arrive and after I noticed that my throw length was halved when switching gears now what did I do now?

When you say the throw length, is it how much you move the shift lever? Jack up the back end of your bike, getting the rear tire off the ground. With one hand on the shift lever and the other hand move the tire back and forth, shifting the gears and see what it does. I'm thinking something might have hung-up in the shifting drum?
    Just guessing.------------

Did you remove the shifting levers, (both ends), when you went into the clutch????

      Check the shift arm alignment.

If the shift arms were put on opposite ends, it would change the shift throw. The difference in the arms are about 1/2" + in length, which would make the shifting quicker in throw.

Maybe, this is about the clutch lever ‘throw’.

Probably needs to reclock the clutch arm on the splined shaft if he had the case cover off.

That is a possibility for sure. I wish he would answer our questions, because right now, we're just pissing in the wind.

Ok sorry my phone broke shortly after my post it's at the heel toe throw just dissent feel right I had the entire thing apart to do some cleaning and painting ect. from the fire damage if it's just shorter will it hurt anything or can I keep it like this?

On mine, I always try to adjust the throw rod so it is as perpendicular to both lever arms as much as possible. That way it has the least resistance when shifting and longest throw. There are right handed threads on one end and left handed threads on the other end. You can also move the rear lever arm on the shaft splines. If you have a dual exhaust pipe, also make sure the lever arm doesn’t hit it.

If everything works fine, the clutch doesn't drag or slip and it shifts o.k., then I probably wouldn't worry about it. If it is the heel/toe shifter do like Duke said and make sure the shift arm (shift shaft lever) is clocked correctly. Basicly the shift shaft lever should be 90 degrees to the shift rod .
