  • Looking for a drive belt for a Road Star 1700 Midnight Silverado

Somehow my belt just snapped. Everywhere I look they are $150-$160, and I just don't have that at the moment. I'm trying to see if any of my fellow Roadies have one that they are willing to part with? The OEM part is 5PX-46241-10-00.

I have a 1 1/2" belt for the 1600s, but you would have to replace the rear pulley to the 1 1/2" which I have as well.

Lemme think about it. Ironically, I have a 1.5” belt and it obviously doesn’t fit and I would prefer to keep it as is but it’s definitely an option. How much for the rear pulley?

70 tooth, It's stock "99 to 03", 1 1/2" wide. All RS rear sprockets are 70 tooth, in 04 the belts went to 1" I believe.

Is there a concern for the bolts not lining up properly? I've never switched these out before.

So that can be mounted on an '07 Roadie Midnight Silverado with the new wheel? I know that Yamaha changed the wheels and pulleys at the same time.

I know it's not the original stock rear pulley. I just need to make sure that it will fit correctly.

Yes, it fits. Bolt patterns are all the same. Some Harley sprockets will fit, after drilling out the bolt holes 1/16" more.

Duke - I'll take it. PMed you.

I got everything apart and when I went to put the belt on it didn’t fit. The front pulley is about 1/16-1/8 too small. Anybody got a front pulley that I can use?

      • #8
Too small as in too narrow or different diameter?

        Comment

        • #9
Too narrow. The teeth seem to match up but the belt wouldn’t slide into the pulley.

Is your pulley a stock steel?

        • #10
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, please. The 04 and newer front pulley is the same width as the "99 thru 03" front pulleys? The "99 thru 03" width is 1 3/4" , and the belt width is 1 1/2".
The only difference I know is 32 tooth versus 33 tooth and the belt being 1" wide on the "04" and newer models.

I thought it was stock. I bought the bike used but the previous owner didn’t change much.

Does anyone know what their stock 32 tooth pulley is for the width?
I have a 33 tooth that would work.

Sounds good to me, Duke. If you can find it, that would be great.

A stock belt on a 07 is 1/1/8 and the inside of the rear pulley is 1 1/4 I can't get to the front pulley to check my guess is that the OEM front pulley is the same width as the rear. When I looked at a pic of a Barons aftermarket pulley it don't have an outer flange on it so 1 size fits all. The OEM has a outer flange so they are year specific because of belt width. it appears that a 99-03 pulley will work on a 04 and newer that has the narrower belt but a OEM 04- newer won't work on a 99-03 with the wider belt.

My stock 33 pulley belt face measures 1 3/4". All I've ever owned for the 33 tooth pulley was the stock ones. Thank you Makriluc.

here are the part numbers and price for the OEM front pulley. the price difference suggest they are a different part.

I'll look for the 33 tooth pulley today, and get back with you. I have a 30 tooth wide pulley as well, but don't have a 32 tooth wide pulley that I'm not using.

If you are using a used stock 1 1/2" belt, then you should clean it really good on all of the cogs.
I use a dry lube after cleaning.

I'm using an older new stock 1.5" belt, but I will clean it up.
