  • Anyone use the Sealed Power lifters?

    Going to order new lifters for a stock 1600, and found a good deal on Sealed Power HT-211 lifters.

    I've used them in the small block chevys, and had good luck with them, but just wondering if anyone has used these lifters in any of their builds.

    There have been quite a few members that have used them. They are only a couple bucks compared to twenty+ for OEM lifters.

      I thought I have read that awhile ago, but wasn't sure what lifters they used.
      I just ordered 4 new Sealed Power lifters for $13.00 total and free shipping. I think that a super deal, but I don't mind paying more for quality lifters if there's something better.

        I haven't heard of anyone having issues with them. Sealed Power has always been a good product with everything they make.

        Mine have been in for well over 60K miles. No issues whatsoever since the change. I DID install them with new cams after trying to replace a single lifter that wouldn’t stay pumped up and having a break in failure with that escapade.

          Just guided a Facebook member through his after a lifter collapse. He’s very happy. One Facebook guy reports 118K on them. I’ve never even considered messing with my adjustment since I put them in. Nice and smooth.

            That makes me feel more comfortable about these lifters. Thank you. I've rebuilt several engines using a lot of different brands of cams and lifters, and found some lifters are better than others.

          What about swapping the old bucket with the new lifter? I know there was some talk about it in the past to avoid the break-in issues. Was that ever done successfully?

          But yah Duke, what JD said, it may be necessary to replace the cams too. I seem to recall a number of members in the past having issues with using new lifters on old cams; causing the cams to *quickly* wearing out.

          Best of luck and let us know how it turns out. I may have to do this myself.

            Going thru this "02" basket case with a bad cam I picked up. I've check the lifter housings and they seem to be good, but will be checking them out really close. Putting in a set of good "seasoned" cams but with new lifters. Pulled the whole engine down, and all looks good. Has the HD oil pump drive.

          Doc it was me that was gonna put new innards in an old lifter case. I didn’t do it. I’m running sealed power on used cams as we speak. I have near 1000 miles on these. I think I’m gonna be ok. Fingers crossed.

            The gentleman I was referring to installed used cams in his 02. I truly believe the problem I had was a bummed lobe from my failed lifter. When I took it apart after the failed attempt, the new lifter did not spin, and she chopped a groove in the lifter face. A trusted source for used cams would be key, if you’re not going to pony up for new ones. Rick Leonard provided the used ones in the case I cited from Facebook. The fella in need asked me if I would trust him that they were good and I told him I would. He’s rolling fine 2K later. One thing, if the install fails, you’ll know about it within 40 to 100 miles. AR is at 1000, he’s gold.

              Thanks JD,
              I'm planning on polishing the lifter bores and lifters. The extra cams I have are good, very smooth all the way around, and are in specs. They have a very good wear pattern look on them, and can tell that lifters were turning in the bores. I'll be working on this project thru the winter, and will let you know how it works out when it's completed.

                It might sound crazy, at first, but new lifters don't know the difference between new cams and used. The only caveat, is that the used cams still have to be good, and within specs. To the lifters, they're all the same. And, I'm certain you absolutely know about being generous with the sticky, pasty break-in lube stuff. And, like Jd said... if they're going to fail... it'll be pretty quick. He's absolutely right. If you've gone 1,000 miles... You're gold!

                  Y’all makin me feel better. I used Dino oil with Lucas?? Flat tappet zddp additive and cam break in lube on the lifter face and cam. The machinist told me to make sure the lifters spin freely and not get break in lube on the sides of the lifter.

                  I'll be using the Lucas and Valvoline mixture after I break in this basket case engine I received.
                  I've been using this blend for 4 years in my 2 Road Stars now and is working good. Not planning to change that mixture.
                  I'll try to keep the grease out of getting into the lifters.
