THATS FUNNY, I WAS IN THat thread thickback then too, so , so we do set the float level with the bike level, right? not the carb level?

You can set the float on a bench, but when you measure fuel level on the bike with a clear hose, you want the bike level. I guess since you'll have the carb out to change the pilot, might as well check the float level too.

I do have the car up out of the manifold but I still have the fuel line the choke the heater wire hooked up you don't have to remove the the carburetor I can set the float level change the Jets any of that just by pulling the air cleaner but to pull the top off the carburetor and access the needle valve I have to to remove fuel tank.
I guess my big question here is with K & N small round filter ,stage 1 exhaust, Barons needle do I leave it on the 4th clip? I can change the idle Jet anytime but before I put the tank back on should I leave it on the 4th clip

Okay on the needle , in order from the sharpest point which is the bottom to the top: metal washer , plastic donut washer, C clip, metal washer, little spring, plastic o-ringed retainer. Correct?

Fourth groove from the blunt end.

Could it be I need the 170 main with stage 1 oem exhaust?

Possibly... BTW any chance you have Dynojet jets? Cuz they are bigger than regular Mikuni jets... Just to be sure we're talking apples to apples and oranges to oranges... Then Mikuni Logo is a square with a square...

Okay I put it back together with a stock 170 main jet, 35 pilot , recheck the float level 3 mm above seam L rear of carb .
Gas on, key on , starts up with a little twist of throttle to get Accel pump squirt. But it starts cold with choke off . No air filter.

                  Put air filter on.
But now it responds to adjustments on the PMS. Seems to run ok will have to do my motorcycle enthusiASSt testing next.

I did not get a chance to drive it as it was pouring and I had to go to work.
The main jet screws into a piece of metal that is mounted in the aluminum housing of the carburetor. Is that Pressed in and is it supposed to be able to move up and down easily after the main jet is removed?

You're a little low on the float level. The spec is 4-5 mm's above the bowl seam.

Yep... Can be a PITA sometimes to get the main in because that piece wants to slide. I found it helps to hold it up from the back side.

Glad to hear it's working better. Hopefully it will ride well.
