Saddle Bag Guards

I just purchased a set of saddlebag guards for 2005 Midnight 1700. They are the correct part# but there is no lower mounting hole? Anyone have this issue yet?

I have been looking for some bag guards myself. Can you post a pic of them and part number. Are they for hard bags or the leather ones? Thanks

I was going to put those on my 04 also but when I looked at my mounting brackets, I don't have the lower threaded hole that the saddle bag guard goes into. There must be a couple diff versions of the mounting brackets. Its too bad as I'd love to put those on. Maybe someone else has more knowledge on this.

I sent mine back because of the same issue. I thought of using “P” clamps for the lower mount, but they still even seemed short.

Yup different brackets required but others have made them work by drilling though the bracket at the proper location, cutting and welding in a bung is wnat I would do but then I'm a welder lol.

The brackets in your pic look like they fit tour classic bags. If they do they are different than the hard bags.

And the guards you purchased are for those tour classic bags also, lol. You can make them work with regular brackets with a little modding.

I think the correct saddle bag guards are STR-5VN33-00-00. The top of the guard has a treaded hole in the bar end that bolts thru the upper mtg. bracket. The bottom has a U clamp that clamps over the saddle bag mounting brackets. The u clamp has 2 smaller bolts the screw onto the guards. No bung is required to bolt the bottoms thru.

I know this is an older post but just want say that finding a picture/image of a part is a very different thing than locating a part you can get your hands on, there are a lot of oem things i would put on my r.s but they are just not available some of the star oem accessories i see in the catalog im starting think were never even made. If the guards for soft bags were available i sure would have gotten them, I've never seen them mounted on any silverado never even seen a picture of those mounted on any motorcycle, those guards are beyond unicorn rare i think
