  • REjet or adjust the PMS screw tighter than 2 1/2 turns?

    I currently have my '07 RoadStar jetted with a 175 main jet, 40 pilot jet, and PMS at 2 1/2 turns. The exhaust pipes and plugs seem to indicate that the bike is too rich. MPG is 30-33. Should I go to smaller MJ or PJ or turn the PMS to closer to just 2 turns for better milage and still retain enough power for highway riding ?

    do you have a Barons needle? If so go to a 172.5 main jet set the needle clip in the 4th groove and 1 silver washer under the clip. If a Dyno jet kit still use a 172.5 main jet but may get away with needle clip in 4the groove and no washer under clip. If you feel it is still a little rich go to the 3rd groove with a washer under the clip. You may have to also play with the pms, turning it in to 2 - 2 1/4 as long as it don't effect idle or stumble just off idle. Regardless of anything else the 175 is to big.

      My needle ( which it took seven years for anyone on this forum to recognize) is a Speedstar, now in the fifth groove. It had been in the fourth, but that caused a almost fatal stumble off idle. By 'fatal stumble' I mean that, while starting out from a stop, like a traffic signal, the bike almost would die , unless I gunned it and slipped the clutch.

        I checked your profile again and realized you are using a Speedsar needle BAK and just slipon mufflers and not a complete aftermarket exhaust. With that I will change my statement above. With a Speedstar needle you should be real close on the jettingwith the 175/40 and 5th groove. Maybe remove the silver washer that is under the clip, that will lower the needle by 1/2 groove distance. Or even go to the 4th groove with the washer under the clip. I'm thinking the slipon exhaust is still restrictive in comparison to a complete aftermarket exhaust. .Also make sure the air filter is cleaned
