  • LED conversion satisfaction

I know that there are various posts about switching from stock to LED lighting, but I would be interested in how satisfied they are with their selection. I know that the selection.varies , but I'd like to get an idea of which product has lasted or/and produced the anticipated results. This inquiry covers both just the headlight and driving light options. Honest opinions only, please!

I think any of them are an improvement over the stock headlight. I bought a cheap $50 one from a member here and have been very satisfied. I don't even know the brand. Just be sure to adjust them properly against a wall or a garage door once you've installed them.

Can you send a link maybe? I can’t seem to find any under €170…

I bought a 7" LED headlight off of eBay that I installed and adjusted and I like it. Mine seems to have a slight blue hue to it and is also seems to bounce a little when I am riding, which is not unwelcomed as seen from the front because it tends to grab your attention. Even when stopped and at idle you can see the light shaking. The light is not as bright as the ones on some of the other bikes that I ride with but is still an improvement over stock.

I see a lot of 7” inserts that are specifically for Harley
They are not installed with the two screws like the RS
Can you still easily mount such unit in our RS housing?
        Curious about solutions

I actually didn’t need the insert. The light mounted in using all the stock stuff.

Not to be a nay-sayer here but, I tried one once and didn't like it. it was bright as all get out but it didn't throw the light down the road. My stock light has a flat beam that really reaches down the road but definitely not as bright as the L.E.D.

H4 replacement LEDs are not the best way to convert to LED, unless you have a weird shaped headlight that's not round.
All LEDs require a specific reflector to focus the light emitted from a single point in a radial pattern like a half-moon.
Halogen, HID and incandescent all emit light in a spherical pattern in every direction.

If you look at a complete LED headlight assembly close enough, you'll notice the LEDs are probably pointing straight up (low beam) and the other LED straight down (high beam).
That lets the reflector do all the work for each LED.
That's also why LEDs have such a sharp cutoff at the top of the reflected low-beam to prevent blinding oncoming traffic while lighting the road up in front of your vehicle really brightly..

Using a spherical reflector to try to focus a radial emitter will always result in poor focus and very inefficient throw of light with a lot of glare.
Use an LED assembly with a reflector designed specifically for the LED built into it and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

          Cool. Thank you. Good explanation.

I was hoping for a little more input on reliability and ease of installation of the various offerings. My brother, who has a '07 Honda VTX1300 has tried the HID route (didn't like the time it took for the bulb to warm up enough to produce light) and now has a LED unit that he demonstrated. It's bright, but I don't know what pattern it shows. I have changed the stock reflector for one that is similar to one I had on my '82 CB900F, and installed the brightest Sylvania H4 bulb that I could find and was wondering about the HID like the Harley's have. I'd wondered about the pattern and distance of those setups, because, like the auto with HIDs, I know how glaring they are to oncoming and ahead traffic. The Lord knows how much money and time I've spent on accessories that just didn't work out!

I found them to be pretty much plug & play.. Just make sure you get one with the H4 plug setup. it replaces the entire lens & reflector. If you get one with the halo then you'll have to splice that wire directly. Some of the cheaper ones may have some shadows in the light pattern (from what I've noticed). The ones I've bought have excellent pattern and don't put throw light up where it shouldn't be. On my current bike I have LEDs in both the headlight and passing lamps. Definite improvement over stock. The one I put on my Roadie was still working when I sold it and as far as I know still working today.

I have these and have been very happy with them. Super bright good projection. You can definitely see me coming.

I also bought these and used the trim rings on my original cans for the passing lights.

Thanx for the link. Did you use the original screws from the headlight to fix the insert?

I'll attest to the effectiveness of these, even in the middle of the day in bright sunlight. Saw them running behind me many times during Starfest 2022 running through the back-roads of NE Washington.

          Impossible to miss.

I have a Kuryakyn led light and Love it! Its definitely more money then the Amazon specials, but the brightness and projection is great!
