  • Looking at a venture tomorrow

Hey guys. Not a roadstar but going to look at this royal star venture tomorrow. It’s been sitting for a while in storage. 2009 with 34k miles. I was told it just needs a detail and fluid change, we will see.

      I had a 2002...

Change all fluids and filters (use synthetic fluids everywhere), new battery, put a 130 tire up front (better handling in town) adjust air suspension front and rear (F 5-7 psi and R 10 psi to start USE HAND PUMP), get a Utopia backrest, PCW clutch spring, join ventureriders.org, replace brake pads with EBC HH front and rear (flush brake fluid and use Prestone DOT 4 synthetic fluid), run seafoam through the gas tank, fresh plugs, fresh coolant, sync the carbs, have Rick Butler re-do your stock seat....install irridium plugs...can lower front end by raising forks up in triple tree 3/4 inch and they make a rear lowering kit...

I had Ivan's jet kit, Barons nasty Boyz 4-2-4 exhaust and K&N filters and it ran hard and sounded nice

Thanks for all the tips! I picked it up. Paid $2500. Fired right up and cleaned up nice. Starting with battery, fluids, and tires.

Congrats!! I had looked at one before I bought my Road Star. I was surprised at how heavy it was coming off the side stand (first time on a bike of that size). But I'm sure rolling down the road that thing will ride like a dream.

Great find. Great price. Awesome bikes. My absolute favorite distance riding bike ever, and I have owned a lot of bikes in the past 55 years. I loved them so much, I owned 4 of them over the years. Only gave them up because the weight , especially 2 up, was getting to be too much for my old bones. You should have the carbs synced but it may be hard to find someone to do it. They usually need to be done twice a year. You could do it yourself . Once you do it the 1st time, it will only take you about 10 minutes from then on. I have a Morgan Carb Tune Pro that is basically brand new. Only used it a couple of times before I unexpectedly sold my last Venture. I am willing to let it go for a very reasonable price if you are interested.

I know. I synced all my stuff last year before I gave it to him so I haven't really had a need for it but notice it was still missing

I remember one guy five years ago had 330,000 plus miles on his with no rebuild of anything just maintenance. They really are bulletproof bikes

Before you sync the carbs, make SURE you don't have a leaking intake boot first.
You've got 4 of them on a Royal Star & they're probably all original ... and oooold.
We see probably 4 of those in the shop every year for what the customer insists is in need of a carb sync.

Every one we've seen so far has had a cracked/leaking intake that once replaced cures the "out of sync" issue.
Yeah, if you're sucking air in a crack you'll be able to fix it by readjusting your A/F mixture but that lasts maybe a year before the leak grows big enough to need more 'fixing'.
Carbs don't go out of sync by themselves unless someone already got all Monkey Fisted with them.
ALL old bikes eventually get intake leaks.

Play the heavy odds & save yourself a lot of future fixes the bike never needed in the 1st place.

Yup, lots of parts to leak in the elaborate Royal Star intake setup.

can I properly inspect the intake boots without removing the carbs? From what I can see without removing the tank they appear to be in good shape.

Get a can of starter fluid. Start the bike and spray around each boot 1 at a time. If there is a leak, the engine rpms will rise.
