Transfer case? Well that sucks! Is your other bike rideable? Is Jeanette coming on her trike?

On the early models, you had to split the cases if you fried a stator.

The bearing behind the front pulley went bad on mine. I replaced the bearing on either end of the drive shaft, front pulley and the shaft. Nut came loose and caused havoc on the pulley and the shaft. the bearing are a bitch to get out. I tryed several kinda of pulley tools with no luck! Talked to a couple of mechanics and they said they would have to be pressed out? Well, I'm a carpenter and after looking around the shop I found a 1/2 wooden dowel about 3' long. Fiqured it could'nt hurt anything so I went to the right side put the doewe in from there and drove the left side beering out from the back. Did the same to the other side. Froze the new ones over night and they went in without a problem Been good for the last 5k!

Hey cool! Sounds like what i need. Was it a straight forward job? No fancy tools.

Was there just those two bearings? And you don’t happen to have the part numbers do you?

                Mort is correct.
The only bad bearing was the one behind the pulley. I just replaced them both since I had to replace the drive shaft. The dowel and hammer was the only odd tool I used. I just kept moving the dowel around the back side of the bearing while hitting the other end of the dowel with a hammer until it came out. The wood being soft will not damage the case.

Did you notice any noise when the bearing went bad?

Ya. It’s been a barely audible noise for month’s that i kept looking for. Then on the way to work the other day it got pretty noticeable and on the way home pedestrians and cars i was passing would look and i was hoping to make it home without seizing something. I jacked it up and removed back of bike and covers and spun the wheel. I had thought it was a rear wheel bearing but turned out to be from the middle drive
