  • Barnett clutch redo...

My purple bike came with the Barnett pressure plate. The throwout bearing went bad about two years ago I replaced that and that was quite the Fiasco as the race broke and I had to chase 10 ball bearings out of the motor. Got that all taken care of last year and 10k miles later everything still good.

This year when I took the bike out I noticed a little slipping in the clutch. I assumed it just needed clutch plates iand steals. Got everything done yesterday and when putting back together the new 7003b bearing I had installed literally just fell out of the pressure plate LOL. So I need to get some loctite 609/Permatext sleeve retaining compound (Per JD's suggestion... Thanks JD) and reinstall. I'll mic the old clutch disc's but they sure seem awfully worn. I also am using the green Heavy Duty Barnett clutch springs this time.

My purple bike had a bad speedo sensor when I bought it and mileage wasn't known exactly. But from looking over service records the original owner had in 2010 it had 60k miles... I bought it in 2017...ive put about 20k on it myself... I'm betting this is a 80k+mile bike.

So this new set of OEM clutch plates and steels (got rid of wire at back and replaced the half-disc/steel with full sized units) and HD springs I imagine it won't ever need changed again.

I've been thinking about doing this myself, what's the benefits of the aftermarket pressure plate though?

Longer lasting and tighter clutch grip.

Stupid 7003b throw out bearing got loose and fell out lol. Used permatex high temp sleeve retainer to stick it in the hub. Going back together today.

Okay I don't want to thread Jack but I just put in a Barnett clutch, heavy duty springs and all new OEM discs and components. I have that trike. I have the feeling like clutch judder I can instead of being smooth it's kind of ratchety. It seems to be worse when it gets hot or I beat the balls off it. I checked the front drive pulley and it's fine what else could it be? It's a champion trike solid rear axle. Are there clutches in the rear axle.

If you used OEM Yamaha factory clutch friction disc's and steels then I'd be surprised at the "judder" being clutch related....

I assume you have a differential in the rear end. Does it jutter if you are letting out the clutch and turning right or turning left, thus putting most of the pressure on one rear wheel?

I don't know I got to think about it I got to ride it again it kind of had clutch judder before I did the clutch. So I just assumed it was the clutch. This is a trike with 60k on the odometer a year 2000, it does go in and out of first gear really weird like it's almost wore out or something I think that could be like the clutch dog so you guys usually say it could be a clutch dog. But whatever it is I get I guess I'll get to the bottom of it eventually I would like to put a 1700 trans and motor in it. It runs really good runs really strong, but the it sounds like a wanker with all the quackity clackety clackety Clack any clack. It doesn't smoke at all starts right up.

Dunno if you get anything from this, or not.

Just thought I’d throw it out there and see if it sticks.
