  • correct fuel-level floatbowl '01 Wildstar (roadstar)

Hello from Alkmaar in the Netherlands. I've ordered and received a Yamaha Grizzly needle valve and I'm almost ready to re-install everything after deleting my fuelpump. Since I have my carb on the workbench I would like to check and if needed adjust the bowl level. Which is the correct level, because it seems that there is a difference in opinion after reading all the articles regarding this? Is it somewhere between 0 and 2 mm below the mating surface of the bowl with the carb standing level, or is it something else? I have a 2001 Wildstar.

Another thing regarding this: the stock needle valve is round with no side inlet or anything. The Grizzly part has two flatened sides with side-inlet. Is there a specific position I should put it in (for instance the inlet facing the drainplug) or is it of no influence how I put it in?

    Thanks for any comment!

Orientation of the grizzly part does not matter. Those holes just allow more fuel to flow.

Ok thanks! That's somewhat of a relief! I pressumed that because of the flatened sides and the side-inlet, it had to be inserted in a specific position. Not!

As I understand it: this is the way to measure with the carb on the bike? Is my presumption that with the carb level on my workbench the fuel-level should be somewhere between 0 and 2 mm below the mating surface, correct?

No, put the fuel level 2mm to 4mm above the bowl mating line that is on the manifold side.

This is is where I set the fuel level on all of my bikes and carbs that I rebuild. I think the book shows the level to be a little higher, but this works and haven't had any carb puke.

The funky looking enriched cover was before Scott made the all aluminum cover. This is a older picture.

        Hey Duke,

I have put the sucker together taking into account the advice you gave....and it works like a charm!

Here's a video I popped on my youtube channel: https://youtu.be/ugiqgMFXEcU (it's my older brother riding it).

        Again thanks for the advice!

        Eric
