Much better off using Yamaha OEM clutch discs and Steals and not the Kevlar from Barnett. Absolutely positively no need for Kevlar on a Roadstar even if it had all the power adders you could throw at it. The spring conversion Part is very nice

Changed my clutch plates prior to COVID using Yamaha OEM pressure plate and clutch plates. I like the friction zone with Yamaha OEM pressure plate on my 2006 vs the Barnet clutch on my 2003. The Barnett is less forgiving if you are into slow riding in parking lots, but it is an excellent clutch nonetheless. The 2003 has a big bore kit and more torque than the 2006. Due to the extra torque the original owner choose Barnett. I was too aggressive with the 2003 and ruined 5th gear.. woops. I say personal preferance. I have zero issues with oem.

Maybe I don't want to install the Barnett if it changes the friction zone very much?

I didn’t notice a difference in friction zone when I changed mine. Just slightly stiffer.

The Barnett on my 03 has a smaller friction zone. And when the clutch grabs it is very direct. Great for holeshots, but takes more skill to use in parking lot slow riding.

I have Barnett kevlar disc's in my vstar/sidecar bike... Sucks for feel.... Like an on-off switch

That was a Vstar thing though wasn’t it? That’s why they made the adjustable lever for them that could be bought?

At one point in time 7 years ago, I had a V Star and Road Star. The road Srat clutch way easier than the V Star. You are correct the V Star is akin to an on off switch.

Sounds like when I raced dirt track. We used a small triple disk clutch. There was no slipping it. It was either engaged or disengaged. So basically you just rev'd it up and dumped the clutch.

These bikes don't produce enough power to do a 2 or 3 plate mod. If you have any concern the heavy duty green springs are more then enough to handle anything these bikes can give it even in a modified engine. I used the green springs on mine with the big bore engine and there is no way it is gonna slip. But if you think you need it watch the video, But unlike the guy in the video that installed out of the box 'DRY" new disc, soak the new disc in oil before installation. I personally think it is a waste of time and money.

Lol, I would take Dave's advice, just saying he knows what he is talking about, Do some folks still use SLICK 50 ?

did the Barnet pressure plate only convertion on my 2004 RS at the weekend, the clutch was just about slipping in top gear, now it's stopped any kind of slipping but not as smooth as OEM . The only other part needed was the housing gasket

There was a video on youtube about the quality of the Barnet drive plates, think I will replace with OEM when the time comes

i just did the OEM clutch with barnett and upgraded stronger springs. it definitely is a harder pull at the hand, engages a little stiff, and is jerky in parking lots as aforementioned. but the trike will spin the tires on accel or decel . and it is not belt chirp. these tires are wide, with so little weight on them, can chirp easily, letting off gas, or braking. im ready to tow a trailer, just kidding

I have a new oil pump gear ( not sure what is in mine I have an 00 that mods were done when I got it ) and a Barnett clutch kit and gasket. I'm a little leery about changing it when I hear about slow speed friction zone type changes.

I went with factory clutch plates and did the 3 plate mod Friction zone did change a little bit but I don't think its too bad with the Barnett pressure plate
