BC1955, Adding that peace of mind was easy once your pictures showed me and once I got in there. Can’t thank you enough.
Your post came at just the right time. My seat barely released (after much struggle) I knew then I better do this mod before I re install seat. Good thing I did cause key doesn’t do the job anymore.
For you guys that lube the latch cable, how do you do it? From under the tank?

Mine was to the point where it felt like the key was about to break so I had to do something. It may not be done the best way but at least it works and until I can get a stronger cable to replace the plastic one, I’m happy. I glad I could help.

I just did mine today. I’m sure you dont “have” to, but it was much easier do when you take those 2 little 10mm bolts out first, and the one phillips head screw. I used thin braided nylon cord.

I made a few secondary seat release lanyards. If you don't want to use a zip tie, or don't have any materials laying around to make DM me for one. $7.50 shipped con-us with paypal.

Some more detail shots of routing and where I tucked the end of the lanyard into a slot just above the side covers

If anyone needs to modify their seat latch to open manually, DO NOT HESITATE to order what gr86ss (George) is offering. He is a stand up guy who mailed one out to me as soon as I asked. He didn’t wait for my PayPal deposit nor did I feel the need to do so AFTER I was sure of delivery. His communications were prompt and reliable. It’s nice to trust people, isn’t it?
This simple lanyard he makes was more than a piece of mind. My key/seat opening design had become very unreliable and, unlike George, very untrustworthy.
            Thank you, George.
